Women and Knives: Why More Women Need To Carry A Blade

I'm thinking about getting a congressman from them. But there's one ahead of it still. It will be my first real nice traditional if I ever pull the trigger.

While we're waiting to see these 14 or more knives (one of which is a sweet Case) that the OP bought yesterday, I figured I'd try to steer this thread back on course.

Why, indeed, should more women carry a blade? Some may answer that it makes the woman sexier. I don't really feel that way, unless you're talking about She-Ra. She is much sexier with a blade.

Maybe they should carry one for self defense? Yes, that could be a reason. I used Superboy as my sparring partner to test out this Protech Stinger in that role. It's an automatic (switchblade) knife. Even though it has the California legal <2" blade, people have been known to involuntarily release their bowels into their underpants when it snaps open. Of course, a menacing gleam in the eye helps here too. As I initially suspected would be the case, Superboy was unfazed. He even gave me 30 seconds to pull the knife out of my pocket. Unfortunately, a rapist or a mugger won't give you 30 seconds to pull out your blade. In that case, I guess I consider self defense to be a poor reason for a woman to carry a blade. BTW, I am really disappointed that the Stinger won't be good for self defense. I really thought that blood would match the ivory scale and black aluminum handle well.

After watching all of Bladegirls videos intently, I decided that maybe an apocalypse scenario could be an extremely good reason for a woman to carry a blade. As luck would have it, I encountered a zombie in my yard this morning. Even though her videos didn't include zombies, I am convinced they will still be here during the apocalypse. I cut this sucker up with my Svord Von Tempsky Bowie a few hours ago and yet, what do I see?! He's trying to crawl out of that shallow grave I dumped him in!!! That stinks..... heck, Crocodile Dundee even proved that a bowie knife was a fantastic knife. Ultimately, I had to shoot the zombie in the head with a .45.

I guess that only leaves one reason (that I can think of) why a woman, or anyone for that matter, should carry a blade. To cut stuff like food, open packages, clean your fingernails and all that other exciting stuff. It doesn't really even matter what kind of knife it is most of the time. I've seen plenty of people use $5 gas station knives and they never thought twice about it.

I almost forgot...... The real reason a woman should carry a blade is so that she doesn't have to ask to borrow mine!!

I have to admit, I don't know very much, so I'm sure that any number of the other fine folks here at BF could probably answer the question better than me.

You won't be sorry with a GEC. In the traditional knife world I would put them on the same level as CRK. They blur the line with custom and they have awesome CS! The only problem is that they are addictive!

I'm feeling addicted just looking at photos. I just wish I could afford 5 or 6 at once. :p

That head still looks attached.....that's your problem right there! Remove head/destroy brain first, THEN dump into shallow grave!:D

Can you tell me more about that spear-pointed doctor's pattern on top Draggat? Never seen one quite like it, but it sure is shiny, and I can't quite make out the tang stamp.

I knew I was doing something wrong.... Dang zombies!

That is a Schatt & Morgan large coke bottle.... measuring 5 3/8" closed with a 4 1/4" of ATS34! I had a maker customize this one by removing the pen blade and adding the kirinite covers. Heckuva knife!

The S&M Coke Bottle is very handsome. It is similar to the GEC #65 1865 Ben Hogan which is also a very good knife. Mine is in burnt stag.

The Ben Hogan is a fantastic knife! For someone used to carrying moderns, it's a good crossover knife and was one my first GEC's. Long, slim, very pocketable, strong and more than capable. Even comes in a lockback version.

That knife is cute. The toothpick design has been around a long time and is very serviceable.

Thanks! Here is a cheapie I bought..a Rough Rider...BUT I heard for cheap knives, they were actually pretty good. I liked the looks of this one so I went ahead and got it.

The Rough Riders are considered a good value and some here seem to collect them. I think I own one. I mentioned in the other thread that the Colt branded traditional slip joints are considered pretty well made too. I intend to pick one up and really look it over in the coming months (basically the next time I pass the big TN knife store and have some time to browse). I prefer to buy the less expensive slip joints in person where I can handle and look them over in the store versus from an online retailer. But many don't have this option.

Which Kabar fixed blade did you pick up? Inquiring minds want to know. :D

I got the Ka-Bar 2-1232-1 Sheath Knife 4" in stacked leather. I don't really care all that much for it, though.it's alright, nice enough, but not one that makes me drool all over myself, so to speak :-)
