Worst YT reviewer/knife channel ?

what's ironic is that you seem to have a disposable income yet request donations.
No adsense, and sisal rope is expensive.

consider how much money this guy spends on knives...if you can do that, the situation becomes insulting.

i definitely took you more serious when you made instructional sharpening/tip vids.
Pretty sure he still does those.

when?

constantly concerned about the quality of your knives.
Kinda seems normal for a knife enthusiast.

i should've said overly concerned to the point of complete OCD.

4 bent caly 3's (no evidence)
Never heard about that, no comment.

of course you haven't..

s35vn ordeal (swing and miss)
He backed up his claims with evidence. And many other people had the same problems, there's a multiple-page thread in the CRK forum about re-heat-treating S35VN.

he fought tooth and nail about this and the fact is, people make mistakes (even CRK). he was gassed up on that whole thing to the point of annoyance.

sage 2 lock face wear (that's what happens when all you do is flick your knives)
He hardly made a big deal about that.

i guess making a public video which once again questions spydercos quality is not a big deal.

VECP epic fail (you cut yourself, it must be les georges fault).
Who would lie about something like that?

lie? i didnt say that. however, i would like to see proof from him that the lock was failing with normal use. i think he just cut himself...it happens.

the last time you started crap on here sal literally sounded annoyed by you. that was the supposed bent caly 3's.
As opposed to what, sounding "non-literally annoyed?" Anyway, like I said, I haven't seen the Caly 3 thread.

you shot a blank here but that's ok.

anyway, this isn't all about you so nice try calling me out.
But it is. The whole subject of the thread is YouTube knife channels. That means him, along with a few others.

i said it's not all about him, which it's not. there are other YT channels in case you didn't realize.

none of your sharpening methods are even anything special.
When have they been claimed to be?

but he's the "art of sharp" remember?

you totally bit solo's sharpening system and didnt give him credit until you were called out on it.
When? Where? Links? Proof?

done

"I wish I could get a polished edge like that using ANY method. My sharpmaker sure won't do it, maybe the edge pro will. Your polished edge just looks so good. You KNOW your edge is good when it shines like that. Props to you man. I just can't do it".
And now he can. Very well, too. What's your point?

me too :) what's yours? we can agree to disagree..

anyway back on topic.
You've been on topic the whole time. What's this thread about, again?

you

He hasn't said anything bad about Spyderco as a whole, one of his favorite knives is a Spyderco, actually. Why can he not point out a flaw in his knife to his subscribers? He's trying to help them decide if they want to buy the knife.

again, there was never any picture or video evidence of 4 bent calys. it's ok for him to make that claim and not provide solid proof?

i'm baffled by that.

my biggest problem was how he handled the situation.

he almost acted like contacting spyderco first was an impossibility. they're stand up people and would probably appreciate that more than potentially losing sales

over something petty and easily explained.

not to mention it was becoming a common occurrence for him to stir up some controversy on steel, knife manufacturers, lock face strength... etc.

nothing is ever good enough.

to me it was just him saying "hey, look at what i found!". for only a few years of knife experience people sure think they're experts.

plenty of people were simply getting tired of hearing about it.

they do make medication for OCD guys..

About a yr ago when I got into blades I was a big nutnfancy viewer. I mainly watched his hiking videos and some of his philosophy videos ect. After awhile he just got really irritating the way he talks and his personality in general.

I must say though I have the utmost respect for him though. Hes a very bright successful guy, and I will watch a video or two. Normally being a hiking video or similar.

After that I found jdavis channel, and boy did I absolutely LOVE watching his videos. I work 3rd shift and I LOVED going out on break checking youtube on my phone and seeing a new video posted. I've learned a lot from him as well. But then.... I started seeing his videos not having any useful content. It seemed like he developed quite a egotistical and narcissistic personality. I've seen him talk down to people that arent as knowledgeable like their idiots.

Ya and that video he made making fun of the guy riding the motorcycle was quite childish.

The one youtuber I just found that I like is Solo, he seems like such a down to earth guy. I've been loving watching all his old videos.

solo is awesome.

i honestly can't imagine anyone having a problem with him at all.

thanks for staying on topic and i agree with your post.

Wow. Yes.

(I'm not proud of all the things expressed in this post, but they do mirror my own.)

Any knife review where the KNIFE is not visible within the first few seconds of the video. Some guys take minutes to unbox it or show it (nutnfancy being one of the worst offenders). It's like they think they are building tension to the climactic reveal. Um, no. I'm closing your video and remembering to never watch you again.

Ya man, I've been really enjoying his videos.

precisely, and then he says that my thread is "classless".

laughable.(sorry for the double post)

Ya I know, but not to totally discredit him. He does know a lot.

EDIT: I think I will always enjoy Cutlery Lover, I can watch damn near any videos of his for some reason.

I just started watching Smokeeater too Ive enjoyed his videos.

unlike most people i like nutnfancy atleast he gets his info right

who i dont like is sherman614 aka people that have no idea what they are talking about but think they do (he claimed carbon steel holds an edge longer because of more carbides......he was talking about 1095....he also said titanium was more brittle and weaker than steel......oh and he also claimed VG-10 was better than S30v or ELMAX)

people who lie, constantly swear and complain about personal problems etc, are going to get mentioned here.

we tuned in for some knife related info.

i

I think thats the problem right there, what you tune in for has no meaning what so ever...a person makes videos on whatever they want, once they obtain a following they usually feel its necessary to keep them happy with videos they enjoy but there should NEVER be any expectations what so ever as its a free service your getting, any communication between video viewer and producer is just a bonus, you dont watch a horror movie then complain its not funny like a comedy so why do that with youtube?

damn thats the one I dislike the most is Sherman!

I'm FAR from a blade expert, but I dont think sherman is really knowledgeable on what he talks about. The first and only video of his I watched was of him testing some Tops knife and just hearing him talk about the blade made me feel dumber.

Not trying to be mean or anything, its ok to be ignorant but IMO someone who is giving advice or guidance on a subject should know what hes talking about.

He seems like a great dude, just not someone that offers any knowledge whatsoever

NeptuneKnives and Nutnfancy are probably tied for the worst.

all you're saying is that it's unacceptable to criticize YT channels.

in my opinion it's entertainment more than a service. i believe it to be more of a service for the YT personalities ego.

no offense jeff but you make videos for you more than the viewers (that's more obvious with your channel than anyone elses).

you guys have the misconception that every viewer is a student of some sort.

some of us are plenty knowledgeable already and watch because we enjoy knife related content.

i know that's hard to understand for some but it's reality.

i don't watch a movie to complain about it, i don't watch anything to complain about it but that doesn't mean i won't address it if there's something worth complaining about.

i highly doubt that you never disliked something and discussed the reasons why. it is legal (but frowned upon apparently)..

didn't you have an old video that made fun of nutnfancy? is that why you're going to make mention of him in the next vid?

i'll be tuned in

thanks

yea its pretty bad when some ones says carbon = carbides and it makes it "harder than most steels" and it holds an edge longer than s30v.....i mean ESEE's 1095 is nothing to scoff at but i mean it just wont out hold an edge on ELMAX or S30v.

the problem comes down to expectations...here is an example...

guy 1 wants to see a knife here its specs and the video is over no more than 4 minutes
guy 2 wants to here about the blade steel if you forget to talk about the steel and grinds hes unsubbing
guy 3 wants to know what you thought about the clip he cant find a knife that carries well dont talk about the clip your not a good reviewer
guy 4 likes knives but is more fascinated with the discussion about the roast beef sandwich you talked about just eating, he watches youtube videos for entertainment and already knows what he wants to know about knives...If he learns something new its extra fun...
girl 1 found video by mistake looking for makeup but laughed at your joke so she subbed to enjoy future videos
guy 5 wtf is this I wanted to listen to free music on youtube and came across this nonsense (guy 5 doesn't play much of a part here but it happened anyway)
guy 6 LOVES knives even dreams about them likes hearing your opinions on a knife in a casual way sometimes learns new things gives positive comments rarely even comments
guy 7 likes your personality can care less what your talking about came to watch videos on fire making stayed to learn about knives now he wants to collect knives
girl 2 hey my boyfriend watches this bull I wonder why
guy 8 im a knife maker Id like to see what everyone's talking about these days so I cna keep up with the trends
guy 9 likes knives likes your personality likes learning things likes the off topic discussion, is an overall happy person spending some time being entertained on youtube (guy 9 is awesome btw)
teen boy 1 all you guys are stupid no knives are worth that much money where are the video game vids and boobie vids at yo?
guy 10 I like knives but too much of a good thing ruins it please do get off topic from time to time it keeps me interested when you get back to knives
guy 11 I want every spec on the knife I want good lighting and macro shots, no music or Im leaving, I know everything there is to know about knives Im just getting excited about my new purchase and want to stare at it in videos until it arrives
guy 12 review however you wish to review im just still learning so its all new to me
guy 13 have a contest so I can win free stuff please
guy 14 Im a forum guy but also love watching videos on knives doesn't matter what they are knives moving are more fun to watch then words about knives
guy 15
guy 16
angry mom 1
guy 17 and on and on and on...etc.................................................................

So I ask the simple question...

WHAT KIND OF A REVIEW DO YOU DO TO MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY WITHOUT BEING CRITICIZED?

Yes if you make a video you will be criticized and most if not all people can accept that if the criticism is presented in a respectful way, period...but it never goes that way, factor in jealousy, ignorance, bad moods, being drunk, being high, being too young, being too old, speaking a different language, etc, and you will end up with nonsense..lol, the internet remember all walks of life can participate, its scary! I use to get more mad at cretinism but these days try to understand where its coming from and why then proceed with possible changes if I think its helpful to the general audience as a whole, not an individual who thinks he just wasted 10 minutes of his life because my video was boring...

Why didn't you ask what are the best channels so people can watch good stuff? Because you are trying to stir up trouble.

Ive never really been into YouTube, but will tell you the channels that I like to watch and enjoy. I just bookmark two people on YouTube and visit those pages.

Those channels are:

1-NutNFancy - He likes to make lengthy videos but its a professional station like watching a TV show.

2-ToughThumbz - Great work, I watch the channel because its all great work. Channel is one guy in his garage, its a personal atmosphere like real life, so who cares if he talks personal stuff that's his life, unlike TNP who is trying to present a brand image or something with a soundtrack and t-shirts. Just comparing the two channels I watch and both enjoy. (And Im lucky to find them so thats good.)

The channels I don't like are the one where someone has a death threat, and people ranting about personal drama I have no idea about. But thats what YouTube is all about - YOU - as in peoples personal stuff going on and personalities of real people so you cant really avoid that.

Anyway to sum it up a lot of people do AMAZING videos and share so much info and give of their time, so just focus on that large amount instead of the things you dont like.

no offense jeff but you make videos for you more than the viewers (that's more obvious with your channel than anyone else).

Really? because the last 2000 videos I made I didn't have to share with the world, I use knives no matter what its a pain in the butt to grab a tripod and a camera charge the battery set it up and film it... every time I see something I review it in my head by looking at it then come to grow opinions later with use, I dont have to wast the time verbalizing it to myself with a camera. I enjoy hot food without youtube I woudl have no interest in eating the worlds hottest pepper, I film animals I already see without the internet, I talk about things I already have in my mind Im not that forgetful...once I make a video I post it then I make a new one I dont watch my own videos and laugh or learn things like Im insane, lol saying my videos are more for me than the viewer is the most ridiculous thing I have heard all week...and trust me I spent some time online this week and read some pretty stupid things ;)

Where is the thread about worst forum topics ever? lol

of course no one can make the perfect ideal knife review video but there's obvious do's and dont's.

let's be honest. i feel like people are playing dumb here lol.

thanks
