Worst YT reviewer/knife channel ?

I'm not sure why one would be upset with ANYONE (let alone with jdavis) that posts reviews or comments pertaining to the the hobby we all love on YouTube. If you find that you don't enjoy their style or that they have nothing to offer that you find entertaining just move on. It's free content and frankly much of it looks fairly time consuming for those offering it so why complain if your opinion differs from theirs?

I've watched many of the videos from guys that have been mentioned in this thread, some I've stopped watching as they're not my cup of tea. Others like jdavis I find interesting and I've learned a few things (knife/steel recommendations and sharpening tips) that were useful to me. I would never come on here and bad mouth those that I've stopped watching just because their style or content wasn't for me.

We all share the same hobby, how about focusing on what we have in common rather than nitpicking or complaining about our differences.

I still have 3 of those 4 bent Caly's, and yep they are still bent. Proving it is as easy as laying the blade on a table, so you "calling me out" on that is laughable. Regardless, that's a pretty common problem with the Caly, and something that is pretty well accepted as normal. So, needing "proof" is kind of irrelevant, since it's so common that it has become normal.

As for all of the other stuff, flame away. I can't even imagine taking the time from my day to dig up a whole bunch of "dirt" on you. Must have taken a while....whatever floa your boat! Lulz

He backed up his claims with evidence. And many other people had the same problems, there's a multiple-page thread in the CRK forum about re-heat-treating S35VN.

he fought tooth and nail about this and the fact is, people make mistakes (even CRK). he was gassed up on that whole thing to the point of annoyance.

Dan, you are quite clearly very upset. I'm sure that you're accoplishing a lot here, and many people have jumped on the "hate Jdavis!" bandwagon, right? Right?

In my opinion, a thread meant for the soul purpose of disparaging one or more persons is just a petty act of an unhappy person, not mention incredibly classless. I don't know what you're unhappy about, but I sincerely hope your situation improves. The time you spent digging up old threads, and fabricating quotes could have been spent doing something you enjoy.

Anyway, I'll just sit back and watch the thread. I'm sure some people will join in on the dogpile, and you guys can feel accomplished that you muddied my name a little. It's odd to me that you are the same person that I sharpened a Delica for, for free. No good deed goes unpunished, eh?

Bottom line, I do and have done a LOT for the knife community. Nothing you or anyone else can say will change that. I've given thousands of dollars worth of knives away, devoted countless hours of my time going back and forth over emails and messages just to try and help someone with their sharpening skills. I'm sure you'll boil this post down sentence by sentence to try and incite me some more, so carry on! :)

Actually that happened to me on my vecp as well, les acknowledges that some of the locks weren't working that way so he changed his lockface back to the old style and not radius. What happened to Jdavis happened to me as well which is why i sen't mine to les to fix the problem. Not his fault either, was mine for not practicing more safety.

There are some bad ones...

The Knifestown guy does horrible reviews with absolutely no useful information, insight or thought put into any of his videos. Its pretty obvious hes just picking up knives for the first time and bullshitting about them for a few minutes. Worthless. Also, I find his voice, specifically inflection and tone to be irritating, off-putting and creepy.

Neptune. I'll give the guy credit for putting forth a lot of effort, and having a lot of passion but if you spinewhack a 400$ custom knife, take it apart, sand and/or bend various parts of it for the sole purpose of spinewhacking it again, you're gonna have a bad time. This guy is a special breed of idiot.

one of your earlier videos you had mentioned that you did not like the ZT 0551. i watched it and was curious as to why, almost in disbelief after hearing so many good things about it.

john, i'm not a professional knife sharpener, i've always pretty much relied on the spyderco sharpmaker and did my best at maintaining an edge.

which apparently isn't much different than what you were doing a year or two ago (before the art of sharp was born). i learned to freehand without copying someone elses entire set up btw..

and for the record i've been into knives since i was 8 years old when my dad bought me my first victorinox (that was 22 years ago).

i had an EDC rotation before you even knew what EDC stood for.

this stuff isn't new to me..

but unlike you i never obsessed over systems and mirror polished, hair whittling edges etc. IMO, a knife doesn't need to split atoms. having and maintaining working edge is perfectly suitable for most knife enthusiasts (again, that statement is just my opinion). also, your knives look brand new, do you ever even use them? you seem to sharpen them an awful lot for having a ton of pristine looking knives...

your ego is annoying and eventually (maybe not at this moment) others will notice.

that's my "constructive" criticism.

obviously you won't take it because quite frankly you can't be told you're wrong about anything.

have you really actually honestly given away thousands of dollars worth of knives or is that more bs? i remember you helping out gundude and that seemed somewhat genuine but questionable coming from you.


and i don't hate you even if it seems that way. i'm telling you that your channel has gone downhill and maybe you should just enjoy your knives rather than dig deep for every single potential flaw.

classless as opposed to what john? a thread meant for the sole purpose of disparaging an entire knife manufacture just for some attention instead of handling it privately first?
 
I think it is funny how people get on forums and bash people and in reality don't know them at all. People like jdavis882, tuffthumbz, xiuxiu1313 are all good people regardless of how they may look or act on camera. I talk to fellow Youtube people on the phone all the time and the community is super tight. On the other side of the coin, get on Youtube and see how difficult it is to do a video instead of just typing some words before people start bashing the others. What is real funny is that we are all lovers of the same hobby yet we have to act like a bunch of dickheads.

You know I definitely agree with you on that as well, definitely don't get on their and act like SouthPark and expect to be taken seriously for sure. You need to try to make videos as good as you can make them plus sometimes you might have to hear some stuff from people because they are talking to their subs as family and they might tell you some personal stuff that is going on in their life. My biggest thing is if people don't like your videos then don't watch and just leave you alone LOL!

Never trust a review, always self opinionated, selling technique or your just having a look at the product again but in 3dimensions, waste a few hours of life though which is the only positive.

You have to get your own hands on the product. Even then you got to watch out for dodgy heat treats a naff quality controlks even if you trust the supplyerr or manufacturer.

Product reviews are just visual aids of the retinas.

What I do find funny is how people develop a perception of people that they think they know but they really don't. It would be no different than somebody starting a thread about you and saying you need to quit posting on the forums because your post are senseless and people get nothing good from them. My opinion only, I do think because someone gets behind a camera it is way easier to criticize them than if all they did was type on a forum. Like I say just my opinion and nothing personal.
