Wow, haven't looked at knives for a couple years. Prices seem insanely high now.

I read this whole thread, and the only thing I came away with after doing so is this:

Busse knives (and kin) must be a pretty good value these days. :p I mean wow, from the sounds of it, you can get a Battle Mistress for what most people must be spending on a junky folder.

Funny the cold steel is a copy of the original.

Bottled water goes for from $1-$5 a bottle depending on where you're at so figure $2 on average and if you're like a friend of mine all he drinks is bottled water. He drinks easily 4 bottles a day so that's $8 a day, times 365.

That's nearly $3K, think of the knife he could get if he just didn't buy water. :)

People tend to spend money on a lot of stuff these days.....

It all adds up quick too.

Then start adding in all the gadgets people tend to buy these days and they aren't cheap.

And that (enter high power car here) that they don't really need and can't really afford to keep tires on it.

Start adding all of that up and Sebenzas start looking cheap. ;)

It's all about priorities and what people tend to want and spend their money on for various reasons.

$500 for a freaking cell phone + the plan they have to pay for monthly and people think knives are expensive?

Exactly, when put into perspective and taking into consideration how long a quality knife lasts it's all relative to what you consider more important.

I've gone through 15 phones in 20 years I still have every knife I've bought 20 years ago.

The everyday price is 28.00. Big W on the Buck 110

Sure wish my salary had increased even half as much as knives have. Seems nuts to me. Maybe it's really time to start rollin my own.

But have you even checked knife prices on Instagram?

$300-400 for a custom fixed blade, under 8" overall length in some mundane steel with sweet acid wash finish to hide the flaws. Definitely for the tactifools...

Not a rule by any means but price gouging happens pretty often there and some people seem to like it.:thumbdn:

$hit, I better double my prices then!

When knives went from being utility items to collector's items, the prices jumped. That's part of the problem.

I don't have a problem with the idea of paying an independent knifemaker hundreds of dollars for a knife, but I just can't get behind the idea of doing that for production knives that are mass-produced.

There have always been collectors and collector knives. It's the devaluation of the dollar.

I have some cheapo knives (including some "advertising knives") that are decades old that still cut just fine. I have never broken a knife of any kind, probably because I don't use them as "do anything" tools. I use them as knives. If I'm going to open a can of paint, I used a screwdriver. If I'm going to cut wood, I use an axe or a saw. For me, the difference between "tough enough that I won't break it using it as a cutter" and "super tough and can be used for anything" isn't important, so I'm not going to spend hundreds of dollars on a folder.

That isn't to say that there is anything wrong with going for the strongest knife, or using it as your "do everything" tool. It's just not important to me, given how I use knives. When it comes to fixed blade knives for hunting or camping, I pay more attention to toughness, but even then I'm more than happy with the sub-$100 ones I own. Come to think of it, I think the most I have spent for ANY knife is $80.

They are more like 40, I've seen 28 once at Walmart. Now they aren't.

Here is the Everyday Price for a Buck 110.

I curious Jill why everytime I post to this thread you combat me on everything I say? I replied to the original Thread about the price of knives and responded with the Buck 110 is a great price point at 28 and ever since you have done everything to call me out on it. Even a strength test against your Cold Steel. Makes no sense to me what your trying to do other than harass.

Go for it dude. And make sure to put lots of skulls on them! You'll make a mint.
