Yep, another pistol

Another winner Bruce. Please post it after it is engraved.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I still havent heard the name for this one that rings my bell. Keep em coming.

These engravings are from Ken Hurst, master engraver that posted here on this thread. Thanks Ken! These are awesome. All are cool but the last set with the eagle is my favorite. Those scrolls are remarkable. The border is so intricate.

Glad you approve of my scratching Bruce however, please keep in mind that these pictures are way larger than the actual piece. I'll try and get some pictures of a "new piece" once it's finished. Ken

Corsaire's compagne - Pirates companion

gredin's coupant - rogues blade

I guess technically though they would be

Compagne de Corsaire

and

Coupant de gredin

or mix and match. you could always go the funny route with Mon autre pistolet de poche - My other pocket pistol =P

Eric, glad you liked it most people seem to thankfully. Of course, I can reduce the head at the same detail even smaller.

Bruce, I thought about cutting hair on that groundhog but, it was so small that it would only leave a dirty look instead of looking like hair. Can you imagion how fine the hair would have to be ? As it was a using gun, it wouldn't take long before the hair started wearing off --- then the owner would be stuck with a balding groundhog. Oh ..... wait a minute, you wrote "Cross Hair" instead of hair --- my bad. Ken

Glad to see you on the forum Ken. Someday I will have some of your work. We talked about it a few years back But I was too impatient too get my Wells '74. Really like your stuff (scratchn as you call it). Steven

What! no love for the pasture Grizzly's? Bad Bad man. :(

Seriously, Beautiful job on the pistol, I love the nice touch of the relief? carving on the Ivory.

Shawn

Thanks Shawn.
The ivory is actually carved on both sides but the picture is too bright on the left side to see it. Wil definately get better pictures when its finished.

:D Yeah I meant like rifle scope cross hair. BTW is that gold on the prairie dog? What year did you do these?

:rolleyes:Since it's french you could call it Pepe le POW!!

Just foolin, Bruce. It's a work of art.

It is going to France eventually and I need a French name for it. Any suggestions?

God, what a beautiful piece of work! I can't help thinking of a woman when I look at it. Call her Anne-Marie after the lesbian dominatrix who brands and pierces the unfortunate heroine of Pauline Réage's erotic classic Story of O.

I was trying to think of an actual name, but for some reason the blade reminded me of a lobster claw, so how about langoustine?

I don't know if you feel a pirate theme with this one, but you could use "Lafitte" which was the name of a famous French pirate from New Orleans circa 1790- 1820 or so. I think it's a little woman of a gun, maybe I would call it "petit cheri" or little darling. Or what about "duelliste" for a more masculine, specific feel? Although "Anne-Marie" is very nice and a great reference as well...
You're right, a piece of art like that deserves a euonym (perfect name) and French will sound beautiful.

Or maybe "riposte," which would be a sharp answer or retort verbally, or a counterattack in fencing? "Coup-de-grace," or deathblow?
