The knife I'm referring to, a G&G Hawk MUDD came from overseas. Admittedly, I was pissed when I opened the mail box, but I didn't assume it was the sellers fault. Luckily I was able to get it, and never even mentioned it to the seller.

I didn't even think of that, thank you. I'll check on
that with Fed Ex. It's nice to hear something constructive
instead of the piling on that goes on here.
Hope this gets resolved.
But it isn'tpiling on you here just give some simple answers
1 why was a assumed name and fake address used to ship it

2 DO you have a copy of your reciept if you do it will show shipping weight & shipping price.

Never mind...I just noticed it was FedEx. I suspect the thing was left in front of his house, as in no signature required.

agreed......

UPS> USPS> Other> crack head bicycle messengers> Fedex.

This has been my experience with Fedex, also I hope everything can be resolved soon.

I will clarify the "two name thing" for people who don't understand how this came about...

I sent the money for the knife via paypal to James Barela, which I am assuming is his real name...

The package that was sent came from:

Jim Thompson
10820 Jollyville Rd
Austin, TX 78759

As far as giving you the benefit of the doubt... Why would I at this point... You certainly haven't given me any reason too or offered me any type of refund or resolution. Look at all of the RED flags, these can't all be coincidence, can they? I felt calling you out here on a open forum was the appropriate thing to do so others don't get scammed as well.

I insure if the value is $100 or more or the other member is newish. Not insuring a $500 knife indicates that you are not very bright, or you are trying to avoid legal issues associated with fraudulent insurance claims.
I insure because I naturally assume I will be held liable; at least initially; if my knife doesn't arrive. I don't send med-large knives in envelopes, ever. I would consider sending a cheaper 1-2 oz knife in an envelope.
You made some crucial mistakes. Make it right. I'm sure your rep can be repaired later by BF if it turns out that it was Fed Ex's fault.

About a month ago I sold a Benchmade Snody Resistor to a forum member. He had very little feedback or posts. His screen name and email didn't match. His brother had to intervene to straighten things out. Then once he paid, the paypal was yet a third and different name. I don't think two different names is automatically a "scam". Two weeks ago I sold a Spyderco Stretch. The buyer requested that I sent it to someone else because he had issues with theft at his apartment building.

That being said, if insurance was indeed purchased then the simple thing would be for your purchase amount be refunded, and the buyer file a claim. That way both parties will be content.

yerscattergun, why are you not answering the questions about using multiple names and non-existent address? Using a fake address and or name in the commission of a crime increases the penalties and heavily implies you are committing criminal acts.

I've noticed a few times during this topic why the need for assumed names would be necessary the most important reason would be so my personal address, name & the worth of what I have at my location are protected from the dishonest people on the worldwide web...
Yes we may be stand up people but since everyone on earth has access to this info forever it makes total sense....
Why is there no residence at that address? I know of several members here that I have dealt with that ship things from work....
I've also had over 1000 transactions worldwide and have found more times than not that if you put a high price on the item shipped the better chance there is of it not arriving at it's destination because not everyone along it's route is as honest as us and the chances of it or the person that took it being found is 0....
A great reason to insure packages regardless...
Recently I received a large air filled clear plastic bag with a ripped open manilla envelope inside as well as a letter from the postal carriers fraud department letting me know that this was the way they had found it and they apologized....
When I checked the tracking number it showed as being delivered....
The tracking number on the outside of the package IS the package and the contents being missing has no relevence according to them.....The tracking number shows it's delivered...end of story to them and paypal.
In this case it was not the sellers fault and the contents have not been found...
I contacted the seller and show him photos of what I received and we worked it out..
I hope that this works out for both of you it's never a good thing when something likes this happens.

Absolutely , I'm out of an expensive
knife and going to be out of $550
because Paypal will take it from my account.
He's not loosing anything.
I lost a knife, $550 and great feedback
here.

You sales thread says you will ship insured so what is the problem? Refund the buyers money and file an insurance claim for yourself.

^^This. Why are you going to be out $550? You said you ship insured.

There are so many red flags, that I definitely don't trust the seller at this point. He has a lot to clear up. Good to know the buyer did not pay via gift as was suggested in the sales listing ("net" to me).

I've dealt with a scammer before..... they act like the victim, and that they aren't at fault. The goal for them is to try and delay the paypal dispute process long enough so that money doesn't have to be paid out. 2 different names and other fake information should tell you all that you need to know. The only course of action here for the "seller" is to refund the money through paypal and file a claim through insurance. If you didn't send it insured and this was in fact a blunder or theft on the post office then I guess youll send it insured next time lol.

In my experience if it looks like a scam..... it most likely is

The seller would have us to believe Fed-Ex vastly under weighed the package by the weight of the knife. in fact 1.6 oz. is about what the envelope would have weighed. I can't believe they can't read a digital scale in fact they don't read it, it's printed up by the machine itself, so if we are to believe the weight was entered incorrectly we have to believe the scales were wrong by a large amount. That's quite a stretch to believe they'd have scales that would read an over half pound package at a bit over an ounce and a half.

Is it possible the knife is at the local FedEx distribution center?
Two weeks ago I purchased a knife from a member and when it arrived in the mail, the package was actually delivered empty and the top of the mailing bubble envelope was completely sliced open across the width of the envelope. A day later the knife showed up in a layer of bubble wrap at the post office. I have no idea how it arrived or how the post office linked the knife with my address.

I am a dumbass...
