you people snark really, really fastIt's hard to keep up with it all.
Trying to decide .... Mosin 1891/30 or Czech VZ24? Looking for a fun C&R rifle that will probably be displayed with my Springfield 1903 and used on the range a couple times a month.
Yep, we had fun yesterday....and Yuengling's!

Murf, are you using a tweener sheath for that knife you made?
Does anyone have experience with the Estwing Campers Axe (not the hatchet)? I'd like to try using an axe instead of my BK9 in the colder months. This is the one I'm talking about.....
Just my $.02. I have had my Eastwing so long the blade cover (do they still call it a "sheath" if it's an axe?) rotted away!
I really liked it. Felt good in the hand. Swings well for what it is -- which is a camp axe and not a full-sized felling axe. Not a lot of weight behind the head to make a deep chop. Just as you suspected the thin profile limits it's splitting ability, but that just means it's "good" but not "great" -- not that it couldn't be done. Steel handle means it's just about unbreakable if you miss.
I dunno. The thin profile of the head and handle gives you the feeling that there is no wind resistance and it feels like you're swinging at the speed of light, even it its just a feeling!
Recently got a 20" Bruks, and there is no comparison. It goes through trees like they were so much sausage. Better edge and heavier head. Never owned a Wetterling so I can't make the comparison.
I'd give the Estwing a chance -- it's a long thin profile, but smooth and nearly as wide as the eye on the Wetterlings, so it should split just fine.

Thanks for the response guys. I think I'll give the Estwing a try - I have the hatchet and while it chops pretty decent for it's size it doesn't split wood well for me.
I really just wanted some confirmation that it wouldn't suck for splitting wood, which is really all I want in an axe that size. Most places I couldn't run around taking down trees even if I wanted to.
