Thanks for all the help with the new knife , I think I'm going for the para 2. I will be waiting t'ill the end of the month however. I will have more funds and may change my mind.

dang you and your pics Eli! :grumpy: they are making me miss CO dearly, oh well, *sigh* Ky has taller trees :D. Still, fire lighting in Colorado was SOOOOOOOO much easier.

I have a Kydex press and a Stropman strop with compounds in the mail and the package from Ethan Becker hasn't found it's way to my house yet :(. my youthful impatience is driving me insane!!!!!! It is like ordering a knife and the sender doesn't tell you when it will arrive, maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, maybe 2023 :D

Eli, Do you like the Swamp Rat Battle Rat or the BK9 better? A bk11 and a bk2 are my next purchases after the para 2

Para 2=good choice

Well, it depends. But you wanted a real answer.

The Battle Rat does chop better. However, it is 1/4 inches thick, and it is really heavy. So, I can chop longer with the BK9 without getting tired out/sore wrists, but the Battle Rat takes deeper bites.

And just because I am merciless, here's a picture (or two :D) from a trip to a Colorado state park.

And we've got Ponderosa pines, too...

I have week lungs so the raped elevation changes were a killer for me. we lived at 6000ft and my Friend lived at 7500ft and only 30 mins away. I would go to his house and I could barely run 20' without collapsing in a hep.

we lived in a very dry part of CO, think Mojave desert, cow skull and all. :D

Next are some G-10 scales and a Kydex sheath made by yours truly.

Looking good!

Have you done a HT yet? On 1095/01 (basically the same thing) you can HT yourself.

Just heat the blade to "red hot" or until is is no longer magnetic or to 1,500 degrees, and then dunk it in motor oil. After that, put it in an oven for about 2 hours at about 425.
^To heat it: you can use a torch, but if you have access to a small kiln w/pyrometer, your HT will be much easier.

What color G10? Don't forget to wear a respirator...

It was a file, do you take the HT out and then reheat treat files? and I was thinking green and black Camo G-10.

I've heard both ways. Did it get above 350 degrees?

If not, then you won't need to HT. Otherwise, you will.

Did it grind very, very, slowly? Did it get hot easily? How hard was it to drill the holes?

Holy Christ that is mean looking. Looks like something from the Riddick movies. What kind of sheath are you making?

Edit: by that I mean like how will you set out up to be carried? I'm designing a system that I think will be pretty cool, albeit only for small knives.

Not a clue, any suggestions?

Maybe, I'm pretty happy with my Bk16 but after a para 2 and a bk11 and a bk2, Then I may think about it. Why do you ask?

If you're thinking about getting a Para, please do it. It's a must have knife IMO.

Hey Mountainmist, I really like that blade shape. Its got a cool curve to it :)

Im thinking about picking up my first GEC, a #71 Bull Nose in orange delrin :)

Gec is great. I think it's good for younger people like us to keep the interest in traditional alive. I bought a Bullnose in canvas micarta, but it was too small for my darn hands. Super nice knife.
