Your best and your favorite fixed blades....

I own about 1/2 dozen fixeds, and plan on buying more. Though I love my Ontario RTAK-II to death because it was my first BIG knife, without a doubt my favorite fixed blade is my Ratmandu from Swamp Rat Knife Works (a sister company of Busse Combat). The handle is pure genius, the steel is stonger than you can possibly believe, and the heat-treat is amazing. In a combo with a Kydex sheath from Okuden, I don't ever go into the woods wihtout it.

As of now, my two favorite fixed blades are my Ranger RD9 and my Ranger custom bush shiv

I'm also thinking about ordering from Justin, probably a custom variant of the RD7. How much for that custom shiv? I'm trying to figure out how much things would cost...

My current favorite is a CRK Shadow III. It's just so comfortable to carry in the pancake sheath, and so solid feeling in use. Great knife.....

Love those May knives. WOW.

Greg.

How does that Shadow III handle when wet? I've always had an interest in one but am concerned about the handle.

well if it's anything like my project 1 and 2, they are very secure when wet. The textured metal grips very well. In fact almost to well (better this than to smooth), if you plan on putting a lot of force, gloves me be in order.

Those are some nice Rangers! Scott does do some great work. My Rd-4 was modded by him and it is my most used larger fixed blade.

I'm not even going to say anything about those Siegles.....:D

some beautiful knives people! here's my 2 favs (right now!)

Taking the questions as they were asked, my best fixed blade is my Max Butcher custom drop point. This knife is the best I own for desighn, fit and finish.

Funny thing is though, my favorite fixed blade is my G L Drew Canadian belt knife. This little knife is just the right size for me and I find my self carrying it more than all my others combined.

Chad

It would be either my Camillus Marine Corps knife that I have owned for nearly thirty years now, or my Blackjack Applegate-Fairbain, not sure how much good it would be in the woods but I love the look of it.

Here is the picture of my Tommy Gann from Les Robertson. I am on the road, and have not had time to take my own pix.

Yeah, it IS! Tommy told me that it is Black Ash Burl. I happen to LOVE burl woods. The pix do NOT do this amazing knife justice!! This IS now my FAVORITE fixed blade too!! :D

It is actually a hard to answer question. I have broken and lost many knives over the decades. Dad's old Kabar (which was stolen years ago) is high on my list of fond memories. It seemed to have been an early (very early as it had the black, red and white hunting handle) MK2 model, but he snapped the tip off throwing it at a support beam in our basement (he was pretty good and didn't miss much) back in the late 1950s, so he ground it down and reshaped the blade to something less fragile, but still pointy and stopped throwing it. Anyhow, that became our HD utility knife and it withstood everything from cutting carpet and drywall to hammering nails with the butt, as well as emptying out a deer and splitting firewood with no further visible damage until finally being stolen in the 90s. I have gone through many blades from the 70s to the present. Several favorites of the week/year suddenly snapped or bent in various places with heavy use. Most of those suffered from the great shape, but too thin in the blade syndrome. I am hard on knives. Guaranteed that if it is less than 3/4 tang, I will have handle failure inside the first week of use. There is an old Mauser 98 bayonet which I managed to snap in half, but reground to a new point it still gave me a 6 inch blade and I use it on construction fairly often. I have a Carbon V SRK that gets some use and so far no visible damage in the past 5 years.

My best and favorite: Bark River Bravo-1 in green and black linen micarta. Tough as all get out and cuts like a laser.
