I've carried a few cheap schrades over the years, and have been curious, how is their MAGIC assisted openers?

I think it's a kershaw thermite. I picked two up for $18 a piece a couple years ago online at dicks sporting goods. Well worth that price.
Bit too slow on the draw with the id I guess

Surprisingly comfortable to hold, that different colored portion in the center of the grip is rubbery, the grips look cool as hell (the blue/purple one is holographic) but wears quickly, kinda cheap steel for the price, a little bit of side-to-side play in the blade. The assist ranges from "light" to "hair trigger" and actually warrants the use of the safety. My friend's had to get his replaced - he pulled it out of his pocket to quickly and the thumb stud caught, bending the safety so that the knife could open about 20 degrees with the safety on. The new one is fine. If you want a less practical but still functional cool-looking knife it's pretty sweet.

Each less than $40 and made in Oregon.
The 1776 Link is actually a blend of the two Link versions. I wanted the blackwash blade with the detent (so I could de-assist) and the more textured and lighter handles from the satin version. And yes, I added even more traction with some stippling from a Dremmel engraver.
