Your Castaway Knife

Easy... My tried, true, tested, old, ugly CS LTC kukri in Carbon V. Its spent more time with me in the dirt than anything else I've ever owned. (Man o Man I can hear the keyboards a-clackin an feel the fires of hell a-heatin for my sorry ass now!! :) ) I JUST had to go and open my big mouth again! :):)

I have to go with you on this one. The CS Kukri machete I have has taken a serious beating and it has come back for more. It's easy to maintain and sharpen with just a rock. You could use the sand to sand off the rust spots. Although the sheath isn't that great.

My latest Skookum in CPM-3V would do just fine ;)

DSC_2369.JPG

I saw that they were being offerred in 3V and scratched my head for a while about choosing it over A2. I ended up choosing A2 anyway. My Koster Bushcrafter is 3V and it's a great steel, just a challenge to sharpen. I bit the bullet on diamond stones and they do a nice job. Beautiful knife that Skookum.

I keep hoping this one accidentally shows up in the mail. I'm convinced that it is bulletproof.;)

lived on an island my whole life (barbados) and rust hasnt ever been the deciding issue with knives.. id probably take a heavier blade, like a camp knife on steroids.. and i think that would probably be a khukuri (H.I.)

i doubt id be whittling sticks to pass the time, but when i do need to be cutting, im pretty sure i want something that will live up to some heavy chopping. it'd be nice to get a synthetic sheath for it though, leather doesnt seem to like the island conditions down here

glad i have another islander around....

McJ,
When did you move?
Last I heard you were just thinking of moving.
Dave (DotD on another forum :D )

I'd most likely hope that the blade would be a golok or an NWA Woodsman
or a Gossman Tusker.

Cheers

I have thought about this quite a bit and I think I'd go with a Busse CGFBM. It is a great chopper & has a coated blade to resist rust. It is more agile and thus more versatile than a NMFBM or FFFBM (I loved mine but it's true), but still heavy enough to use the spine or butt as a hammer (SMASH coconut, no harm to edge!). It can be used to dig, if absolutely necessary, although it can also be used to make a spade out of wood; it has a choil for choking up on finer work; and it's not much terribly harder to sharpen than 1095 but is much tougher and holds an edge longer. If I meant to be harvesting grasses all day I'd take a golok or machete, but if I need one knife to do everything for 3 years, gotta go with a big slab of INFI.

A Busse Nuclear Meltdown Fusion Battle Mistress!

busse-nmfbm.jpg

A highjacked photo, but stock I believe.

Blade Steel: INFI
Blade Length: 11.5
Overall Length: 17.5
Thickness: 0.25

Awesome, but a Nuclear Meltdown is a little bit more than I'd need.

Does Busse make a Hot Muggy Day Battle Mistress? or maybe a My Car Overheated Battle Mistress? My Dell Laptop Crashed Again Battle Mistress maybe? My Shoelace Came Untied Battle Mistress could also be a useful addition to my collection.

;)

I'm gonna catch some hell for this post.:o
