Your favorite cheap knives?

CS finn bear, along with of course the opinel, schrade knives (pre-made in china) and of course mora.

I like my Opinel #7 but I would not call it a "cheap" knife. Inexpensive is ok. I have a Buck Quest that is inexpensive and I use it a lot also.

I WOULD call Opinel knives cheap! They are cheap to buy and they are cheaply made. The only thing is that as cheaply made they are - they are still well made and they work well. The person that designed them was freakin' brilliant IMO. To design something so simple and cheap to make, but would last well with normal use and easily sharpen to an incredible scary sharpness - that is genius!

The Opinel knives are not made with CPM S30V steel or carbon fibre anything or titanium anything or any type of resin or glass. They are cheap simple knives made from cheap simple materials, they cost little to make and they can be sold in huge numbers at a low price. They are the ultimate affordable folding knife that anyone can own! The locking mechanism is the cheapest I've seen, but it works!

I have a #4, #6 & #9 all in beech wood and carbon steel. All feel cheap and yet they are all VERY capable knives. They are light and cheap and simple, but boy will they slice a tomato easily! I like the design so much that I have ordered a luxury model - a #8 with a walnut handle and a stainless steel blade, yet still under twelve bucks!

There is a hell of a difference between a cheaply made and cheaply priced product VS a crapily made piece of junk that is cheaply priced. Anyone can cut corners and produce junk, but Opinel has just kept the design cheap and simple - NOT junk!

Anyone heard of Pacific Cutlery knives?
I just found a bunch of them for between $10 and $15 (AUD) on ebay and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them.

For me, either a Buck 110, or a Victorinox SAK would be my favorite cheap/low-cost knives.

Any Opinel and any Mora are useful, practical and inexpensive. I recommend them whenever I can.

Definitely SAKs. Although, I wouldn't consider them 'cheap' knives - they're really well made, they're just inexpensive.

I think I managed to lose another one. After losing my first knife, a SAK, a few years back, I bought an alox pioneer a little while back for nostalgia's sake. I think I've now lost that one, too. :(

ok my list for inexpensive knives are
opinal, spyderco byrd and rough rider knives. I am really impressed with the Byrd knives big time impressed.
good knife hunting

it would be the couple moras i got...just highly useful all around knives: fishing, pruning, utility cutting, etc.

i got a new case sodbuster jr. that i won't use because as soon as i do it will "patina" and i can't stand the look...

Mora
Opinel
CASE Sodbuster
Buck Bantam lockback
Certain Rough Riders
Otter knives from Germany

All sturdy, nice to use and not melting you into a debt ball.

SAK alux soldier
Izula
Condor golok (it's a real workhorse, and i higly recommend the high dollar chopper lovers stay away from it :D)

Kershaw Black Gulch. Picked one up on eBay for 9 bucks. I watched two more auctions that ended in the sub 20s.

at the time i wasn't into steel types and all...in hindsight i should have returned it for a SS version; i'm now 5 yrs too late to do that...it will be a gift to a friend and i'll just pick up a SS sod jr....

Have to agree with many of the others. My favorites are...

Buck 110 ($29@ Walmart)
SAKs (Most under $30 on Ebay or Amazon)
Case Sodbuster Jr (something like $12 @ Lowes)
I also consider many in the Spyderco line a bargain (Delica, Endura, Native).

With any of the above, you get good, solid knives at affordable prices.

I just picked up a little volcan knife at blade. $20 and it is a great little slicer and fun to play with too.
