Your Fighter EDC

Yes I am sure. I lived in the north (Chicago) for all of my childhood, which was a long time ago. I hate the liberal north. I hate the liberal north. Sometimes you have to say it twice since it feels so good.

Anyhow, I don't care where you live, if you are defending your life or that of another and you, for even a moment, consider "oh, he has a large stick, so I can only use a ____________ fill in the blank", then you're a moron.

You can use whatever means needed to protect your life, IF you are in fear for it.

And yes, in Texas you can protect your life, limb AND property with deadly force. You use to only be able to protect your property in the hours of darkness, but that was repealed. You can protect your property with deadly force at any time. It still amazes me that people commit crime here, as most end up on the news as a statistic. Just two days ago "Houston store owner kills 3 would be robbers".

Don't mess with Texas.

You are right, and I stand corrected. I pulled up the Texas self defense statutes. It seems so counter-intuitive to everything I learned in college (Criminal Justice) and on the job that it doesn't seem right!

About the fill in the blank question, you know as well as I do in the real world thought processes don't work like that anyway. But it is technically the correct way to think (everywhere but Texas :P). I am not trying to say that you will be convicted (outside of Texas) in that scenario but I am saying it will lead to significantly more legal hassles. ;)

To answer the original question, I carried a Gerber applegate fairbain folder until my lyme diesese got so bad I couldn't open it any more. Now all my carry knives are fixed or assisted opening.

My Benchmade 580BK Barrage has proved itself to me. Also my Benchmade 710SBKD2 I carry with confidence. I know my Izula would be good defensively. I will always stand by my Benchmades though :D

This, but Glock 19. I don't know about pussies as much as "people who want to get cut a lot."

Back in the day, I Googled "knife wounds". It made me put my $30 Kershaw Leek back in my pocket where it belonged and use my fighting knife money on more G19 mags and Speer Gold Dot. :D I don't want to be within arms reach of anyone with a knife, definitely not someone who knows how to use it.

I'd look at a Spyderco for this role.

Seen it too. I'd so rather be shot than sliced and diced by a knife. But if it's all I can carry at the time for protection because I can't carry my XD so be it.

I like SOG. I was eyeing the SOGzilla today for pocket carry. I was carrying a 4.25" Gerber Icon Tanto pocket folder.

But, if you're training to use a knife for fighting in a self-defense situation, study the experts--the prison shankers. They are killing people with melted ziploc baggies, for goodness sakes! The basic idea is as many thrusts as possible in as many vital places as possible in the shortest period of time.

Skill and will trumps gear. Every time.

thats one of the best posts iv ever seen in a SD knife thread:thumbup:

Are you sure? That doesn't sound right at all.

I'll back up what Tat said.

Our Castle Doctrine is one of the best in the country. I have issues with some restrictions as far as CC but for the most part our gun laws are pretty top notch.

Yeah the property laws vary. Here in Oregon, where we have pretty relaxed gun laws, it is strictly forbidden to use deadly force to protect property.

I just don't understand this knife fighting fantasy that many people talk about (but then again I don't understand this whole bullshit tactical and survival industry either).

Oh I think you understand it perfectly :D

On topic: I'd rather have a baseball bat than a fighting knife...

My three favorites carry blades next to my Colt .45 Officer is a ProTech TR-3 Auto, BM AFO II Auto, and a MT QD Scarab OTF Auto.

It's an illogical, gut-level response. You just can't see the damage from the projectile that's going on inside the body. If you did, you wouldn't think the way you do. ;)

And...if you're talking about rifles and shotguns, well, nothing puts hair on the wall like a .12 Ga. shotgun. :D

I guess you didn't sense my sarcasm.

I'm very aware of ballistics and wounding associated with guns. :jerkit:

:D

Don't jerk it too hard. :D

I don't really care about the whole thing. What makes me ill is, "Revolver Vs. Semi-automatic, 9mm Vs. .45ACP, Gun Vs. Knife" These are boring and pedestrian...and the next two are just stupid.

"Guns are for show, knives are for pros" and "Never bring a knife to a gunfight."

For defensive purposes, a knife is a great option to have open to you. That also doesn't necessarily mean it is going to be a "knifefight," either.

If someone thinks they are going to do A., B., or C. in some "knifefight," they have been sold a bill of goods by a charlatan. Targets present themselves, targets are taken and they are taken by whatever methodology fits at that moment in time. Anyone that thinks otherwise is courting disaster.

I've seen two people stabbed with screw drivers. Both flat points. One pointed cold chisel. One steak knife and one butter knife. No tactical knives. Everyone that was stuck but one lived. I've seen a few shooting victims (and volunteers). None lived. I've actually seen more people killed with flying animals and flying food than knives.

I can't conceal a fixed blade of any length here so I CC one of three Glocks (26 edc). Never really looked to buy a fighting knives. I think they look cool, but have never found the use for one. Knives to me are tools.

It's the intent of the user that decides what is a fighting knife. There are some purpose-built fighters but by and large, most of the ESEE offerings will do just fine.

Don't try to fight me then fool!

hahaha.

If I was answering this question seriously, then I'd have to talk about the Bush Operator. I carry one with me pretty much 24/7. I don't carry it for fighting, but it was designed with a lot of direct input from certain military personnel who would use it for things you would never hear about in addition to regular field chores. I'm from Memphis though. We shoot people.
