YOUR most expensive production folder?

I have a custom Emerson Super CQC-6 that I paid over 2k for. I still love it after 5 years but I wouldn`t buy it again. It`s a special knife to me with a special story how I got it.

Mine is a gen 6 Hinderer XM-18 3.5 No-Choil in M390, which ran me $425. It was not worth the money.

The knife doesn't flip unless you use bearings in the pivot, and even then it flips poorly. There's a massive amount of detent rock in the closed position, where you can see the lock bar shifting when you put pressure on the flipper tab. Worst of all, it was ground laughably thick behind the edge (even for a hinderer), which made it a massive pain to reprofile to anything approaching a normal edge angle, especially at the transition between the two flat grinds. I ended up reaching "screw it" levels of frustration and convexing the entire blade in a rage. It now cuts better, but I've effectively ruined my ability to resell it. I'm done with hinderers.

Ouch. I would have returned it to the dealer immediately.

The most I've spent on a knife is around 110 dollars. That's just my cutoff. The most expensive one I have currently is a native 5 lightweight. I've owned a griptillian and have had several special edition bucks and case. It's awesome to see everyone's different price ranges

The most I have spent on a production knife is $900, at least for one that I still own. There is a small chance I might have spent more on one at one point, but I would have sold it for sure if I had. The knife I have is a Shirogorov 95T in M390. I know you can get them for more reasonable prices now sometimes, but when I got mine it was not an option at the time.
I would probably do it again, but obviously not for the same amount that I paid before, as I can get one much cheaper today. I will say, I had the knife professionally sharpened to a mirror edge at a good cutting geometry, and while I have had to touch it up over time, I have never really needed to sharpen it after that. I have learned how to upkeep mirror edges though so it works for me. I love the knife and carry it a lot, but I do wonder some days if it was really worth it, as I have sold pretty much all of the knives besides this one that I had that I felt were too highly valued.

One of them, the other is a William Henry T10-P Lancet.

Here's my WH.

That William Henry is interesting. What kind of handle and blade materials?

Thankfully, I have fairly inexpensive tastes in knives.

My most expensive folder is a Manix 2, in S110v, and G10 that ran me $150 at my local shop about a year and a half or so ago.

My next most expensive folder is a great BM North Fork that I snagged in LNIB condition for $100 not he exchange.

I have had 2 Shiros and I still have the carbon fiber/M390 Hati on washers. I paid 850$ and sold a couple mid techs to get it.
I just think its the best knife I've ever had (Production)

-Its large (3.75 blade) but very slim and carries like a dream with the deep pocket clip.
-Simple construction (2 screws)
-Insanely smooth (blade drops by its own weight and detent is awesome)
-Stonewashed finish cover marks very well
-The flat ground blade is the best slicer ever
-Very light weight and super ergonomic with no hot spots
-The level of detail (pivots, clip, milled, backspace, etc. is incredible)
-fancy materials (I do like that-CF/M390)
-Love the simple looks

Would definitely do it again!!!!

PS: ChazzyP ChazzyP you are killing me with those Shiro pics dude!!!!

Man that’s really disappointing. I’m looking to pick up a Gen 6 because I heard the flipping action was much better. But now I’m skeptical:( Do you think you got a lemon?

Hmmm...most expensive bought while still in production would have to be US version CS 4-Max, while most expensive out-of-production would be either CS Arc-Angel or Hatamoto

Its definitely still somewhat of a question how strong just a peg hole in cf will be over time. WE knives has an interesting solution. They have a fairly thick teardrop shaped piece of metal that fits into a cutout in the g10 or cf. the round part of the metal piece the bearings roll on and the “tail” of the teardrop gives a place for the stop pin to go in and be supported by metal.
I posted my 111 a few pages ago as one of my most expensive. Shiro has their own interesting solution regarding that knife's stop pin and the fact that the presentation side is CF only, similar to the 0492 referred to earlier. The pin is affixed to the blade, protruding through the lock-side only. It travels through a chase milled out in the CF and stops in both the open and closed positions against the rather complexly milled, multi-functional liner on that side.

I had two. Ever single generation comes with people proclaiming that "the detent is totally different now" and "this is the version that actually flips". As per always, however, they didn't change a thing; they just put bearings in them, and are still putting out knives with inconsistent and awful detents. The bearings are enough to make them open, just poorly. If you use bronze washers like most people seem to want to, then I'll bet you don't have great luck. Though there is a chance that you get one with a good detent, but I wouldn't bet on it.
