Well, the mod is usually done before you can do a WIP sequence. :D I'll do a before and after for you though. ;)

I bought a pair of Case teardrop jacks with "bonestag" covers from Mike Latham at Collector Knives a couple of weeks ago.

A long time friend at work is about to retire. He is a closet knife knut who likes traditional patterns. I'd had my eye on this pattern as something I wanted to try, and this is the type of knife I was pretty sure he would like. So when I noticed these on the site I thought I should buy a pair. My friend hasn't received his knife yet, so I don't know if he will like his, but I definitely like mine. I have checked his knife, and the following comments apply to both knives.

Mike had rated these as a "9" for WR Case fit and finish, and a "5" for ease of opening. My opinion is that both of his ratings were right on the money. No gaps. Springs are flat with the covers in all three positions (has a half stop). My opinion is that this knife has a higher degree of attention to detail than some of the standard Case patterns.

The bonestag covers are kind of fun. You can see from one of the photos that in true "stag fashion" the covers on each side are not quite the same thickness. Not a feature which is a selling point to me, but interesting attention to detail on the part of Case.

Case has a reputation of sorts for "over-polishing" their knives. This one is not over-polished. The corners are not sharp, but they are not extremely rounded as some of the corners on my other Case knives.

Tony Bose posted in the thread on this pattern that he had designed this knife and that Case had faithfully reproduced it. You know that explains a lot about this knife. It has none of the features I normally look for in a knife. It's a single blade, so there are not multiple blade shapes to use. It's in Case Tru-Sharp, which I don't normally prefer. It has a half-stop, which I don't prefer. But, there is something so right about this design, that I cannot stop carrying it. The blade shape is perfect. The fit of the knife into my hand is perfect. It is a perfect delight to use.
