Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

Synthetic materials have been used for knife handles for something on the order of 160 years. Micarta was developed about 100 years ago. More than enough history to make them "traditional". Lock backs are likewise considered "Traditional".

I just had to Google this, and learned that Micarta does indeed go back to 1910. The things I learn around here...!

archertl, I have a green micarta Camp MUK, and absolutely love it. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on yours. It sure is a beauty.

Beautiful blade archertl, love the green micarta and that banana swoop for a rocking motion. Same to you Cory

I love it too. It's beautifully finished and the handle is perfect. I've been carrying it as my edc knife paired with a gec 73 since I got it. As long as I don't go to any of the big cities a fixed blade is legal to carry. The blade shape is prefect for general tasks and great for food prep. I can't wait to skin out some game in the fall with it.

My 2 latest, a #79, 1 of 25, in Smooth Ivory Bone and an #85, 1 of 35, in Black Buffalo Horn:)

It's surprising how many synthetic materials that we think of as "modern" were first developed in the 1800s. Micarta may be a 20th century process, but it has been around over a century now. I wish I knew when the first Micarta knife handles were made. I know that Westinghouse marketed Micarta for household and decorative items pretty early, in addition to industrial applications.

The wife and I went back to Michigan for the weekend. We spent Sunday at The Henry Ford (Greenfield Village). We were leaving and went to the gift shop. My wife found this and said she had to buy it for me. She is so supportive of my habit :p.

I had to share it somewhere :D.

Ron, as others have said...great pair of knives:thumbup: I too really favor the #79:cool:

somepunk, that is a fantastic IVORY #15:thumbup:

Chris, love that wood knife kit...very neat:cool:

Ron That's a fantastic find the 79. Lot of character with fine ageing potential. I have its counterpart in a Northfield Blackwood version, knives that deserve more attention. They'd make a great pair....;):D

Thanks, Will

That's pretty cool Chris. I've seen those around and they seem like a bunch of fun if you made it alongside your niece, nephew, son or daughter to teach them the mechanics of a folding knife

;) :D

Thanks guys. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. I might just hold on to it until I get the chance to do what Tim suggested.
