Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

I acquired a couple of new Alox SAKs last week, and they are excellent quality! One is an olive green Farmer (I've wanted a Farmer with its saw for a long time, but I was also hoping to get a reasonable deal on a color other than silver; finally my patience paid off! :D). My first Farmer!

The other is a red Cadet (not such an unusual color for a Cadet, but I kept procrastinating, then deciding to order and finding the red Cadet out of stock; happened at least twice, so I finally jumped on this one for more than I needed to pay - my impatience didn't pay off! :o) My first Cadet! Little red beauty!

I got a very nice Camillus/Buck 301 today. Excellent fit on the blades. It's nice to have a 301 with brass liners

Very nice new SAK's Gary. I can't believe how much I am enjoying the Cadet . It appears you have a case of "alox pox". Enjoy them.

I received my first 53 today. Definitely a keeper!

I bought this cattle knife last night... possibly from one of you guys. I had been wanting more 440C on 3-blade patterns from GEC. And this one appears to have some very nice stag covers.

I like the seller's photos. He does a nice job with the background. It's subtle and not distracting.

How's this for a mailcall lads? Didn't post the Dowell when I got it about a week earlier (check the Bret Dowell Forum for why :) )

Nice score Gary. I like the green Farmer.

Gary, Really really like the Farmer:thumbup:

Nice Farmer Gary! Love the color.

Thanks for the encouraging words, guys! One thing I like about "The Porch" is it reminds me of the song "Home on the Range", "where seldom is heard a discouraging word"! :D:D
Bob and Mark, when I ordered, I wasn't sure about the color of the Farmer. My first choice would have been a brilliant blue one (I think Paul has a Farmer or Pioneer in that color), but those were already sold out when I got to the dealer website. The green is actually called "olive" and the color in the dealer photo didn't really grab me, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the color when it arrived; maybe I'm just easy to please, but I really like it. With my green Farmer and red Cadet, I can hardly wait for Christmas season! :p
Paul, your always-colorful Alox choices, and those of SAK Guy, were a major influence in me taking the plunge to get these 2 latest SAKs; thanks!
Chris, glad to hear you're liking the Cadet. This is my first Cadet, and I was surprised at how slender it is. You're right about Alox Pox; I've had it bad since my first experience with Alox back in October! I can usually keep it under control, but I'm very likely to order an orange Cadet, an orange Pioneer, and a copper Farmer tomorrow or Saturday if there are any still available! :o:o

I received my first 53 today. Definitely a keeper!
Congrats, Jake; that red stag is awesome!:thumbup: Why is that pattern called a cattle knife rather than a stockman? I'm still trying to pin down that distinction.

Looks like you'll be busy the whole holiday weekend establishing relationships with those splendid new arrivals, Tim! ;)
Congrats on a terrific trio!:cool:

A Stockman is a serpentine pattern. Cattle knives can be equal end (like this one) but there are some derivatives like Balloon and Eureka and Surveyor.

Iirc, GEC may have used "stockman" and "cattle knife" for different variations of the the 53. But since it's not serpentine, it's not a stockman.

I also like your Farmer.

Thanks for clarifying the difference for me, Jake! And thanks for the compliment on my Farmer. (Lot of agricultural names for knife patterns!)

Thanks, SAK Guy. I've been infected for a long time (since a gift Electrician last October), but I've masked my symptoms pretty well until now. :D:D A tip I got from both you and Alnamvet paid off in my being aware of this "dealer exclusive"; thanks for the assistance!;)

This is not a new addition of mine, I have had these two for years. But this is the Tiny Trapper next to a Peanut. Just to give you a size comparison.

Keep in mind that Case's naming is rather variable, and any sort of size modifier is based on the main pattern. So a "Small Texas Jack" is only small in comparison to the (now discontinued) Texas Jack. And the Small Texas Jack, which is Amber Bone CV, is called a "Medium Jack" when done in any other handle and steel combination, and the same name is applied to the smaller '087 Medium Jack pattern. It is also the basis for one of FIVE "Medium" stockman patterns. Which in itself is deceiving, because the Medium Stockman patterns range from 3 1/4" (smaller than the Mini Trapper, Mini Copperlock, and Small Texas Jack) to 3 5/8". And the Small Stockman is about the same size as the Tiny Trapper.

Sooo.... never trust what's in the name, look at the sizes!

John thanks for the picture, i see a Tiny Trapper in my future.

OMR.
