Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

Received this GEC made Schrade, I have been looking for one of these for awhile, beautifully make knife.

Very nice, Augie! I just picked up a pair of these in the dark brown bone. 1 to use, 1 to put away. A big, solid hunk of knife.

I have to admit though, the coloring on yours is first rate

I have a little yearly tradition of going around to the big box stores the week before Christmas to find the Buck Holiday Tins. They usually have a pair of knives from the 370 import line. Either with a new variation in cover material or blade configuration. Here's this year's. I've never seen a Muskrat with a sheepfoot blade, and it reminds me just a tiny bit of our forum knife! :) I'm very pleased.

An original fishtail, with metal slabs and painted spring and liners :

next come green yellow and red.

Quite a lot of variation in these fishtails. That looks like a fish-tailed violon.
Is Lacroix still with us? All I get googling is a La Croix de Fer mountain pass.

Lacroix is a quite common name. This is the original shape. I'm not sure it still exists under this name or if it make folding knives. This is typically regional, you'll find in Vendée only. I PM you the addresses. The spring is a true nail breaker, but you can pinch the blade.

I normally hang out in the axe/hatchet subforum, but I may have recently caught the traditional folder bug. I picked these up this weekend, a 1984 Case camp knife ($20), a Rough Rider smooth green bone Barlow ($12) and a Rough Rider LARGE whittler? ($16). I haven't seen this pattern before and snatched it up.

I have been on a John Primble kick for a while now. The old Primbles associated with Belknap, not the stuff from Bluegrass cutlery or marked Maysville, etc. I have also been checking out the congress design lately as well. So I was pleased to find an old John Primble two blade congress on the bay this past week. It was delivered yesterday. Nice knife. Used, but not abused. Pictured below.

The old brands really appeal to me. Maybe I'm a romantic or whatever you want to call it because I imagine these old knives were used frequently by folks who needed a no-nonsense knife to get daily tasks done, and who knew the basic knife from the local hardware store was made of a high enough quality to serve them for several years. It reminds me of my younger days I suppose.

Coming in the mail today! Is it quitting time yet? I picked up one of the last (2) Schrade 3rd Gen knives that I need to finish off the collection. Here is the C627 with Hoffritz printed on the main blade. Last one on my list to find is the C628. I know there is someone in here with it. You are evil for holding onto it. Got to take a picture of all of the ones I do have & post them up. The last picture is what got me interested in the collection.

...This little guy arrived today. It's a Queen #3 Small Sleeveboard, D2 blades, feathered horn covers. This is my fist knife with horn, and it's quite nice. Smaller than I'm used to carrying lately, but I've been looking for a 'fancy' pen knife for the collection, and it seems I've found it :)

Congrats on that buffalo horn beauty, Mike!:thumbup: I'd definitely call it a "fancy pen knife".

That's a very interesting set of unique knives, GASB! I've never seen them before; thanks for sharing some pics!

Great score, Rachel!:cool: I once had one of those Solos; sweet knife, but I sent it off in a GAW because I favor multi-blade knives. That muskrat is very cool; it does look a bit like the 2015 Forum knife, and it reminds me of a 93OT I have, but my Old Timer is a jack configuration with clip and sheepsfoot at the same end. Thanks for letting us know these are available! (I checked a local Mr. Sam's emporium Saturday morning after seeing your post, but couldn't find the Holiday Tin there. The woman I asked said that they are "one of the smaller SuperStores" (which I found to be an amusing remark :D), so they don't always carry everything that the bigger stores in the chain do. I'll have to keep looking; maybe online somewhere?

just arrived today after being stuck someone in the post offices
Congrats on the fine stag on that one, Mrknife!!

Two new ones for me.
Couple of real beauties, bozack; congrats on the wonderful wood!

Welcome to our traditional folder world, jb. :D Those are 3 nice ones IMHO! I don't think I've seen that big RR whittler before either; how big is it, and what's the pattern number, do you know??

What you write here really resonates with me, Norm. I'm mostly here for the nostalgia, I think. Don't necessarily have much interest in the latest, greatest, coolest, most expensive new model (although I certainly enjoy seeing others getting fired up over them, and sharing photos here); I'm drawn to the old, basic knives you mention.

I also like the combination of blades on that "muskrat". I sent you a PM request for the details.

Just got this today . A Daughter wanted a knife for Christmas.

Wrapped and under the tree in less than an hour.
