Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

Just came this morning.

I've been looking for a replacement for my last regularly used modern folder, the knife in my truck's glove compartment, and I fell in love with the Buck 112 Ranger -- specifically, the 1974-1980 no-nick version.

At a whopping 6.1 oz. (thanks to its one-piece brass bolsters and liners), this knife is quite a handful. It's also my first locking traditional. I've gotten so used to slipjoints that the lock will probably take some getting used to!

My first traditional knife, received from my parents when I was a kid, was a SAK. But my second was a Buck. That knife is long gone, but it feels good to own a Buck again. :)

Dadpool, you have an impressive knack for picking out great knives. I swear every time you post a new acquisition I'm amazed at your ability to seek out some very fine specimens. I wish I shared that talent.

Amen Rick...he has ridiculous luck lol

I got these at a thrift shop today. Not super top shelf like some of the knives posted, but $5 each!

JB - You got yourself 2 very nice well made knives there my friend. They were quite a bargain too! They are top notch in every respect. Keep um coming :D

Aside from "no-nick", those were 440C blade steel.

Nice knife.

I found a set of Westerns. A stainless, and a carbon "carpenter's whittler",
and a stockman with punch! :)

Dang, r8shell! Jackpot! That carbon whittler is so sweet, well used and lovingly cared for and I actually prefer the new blade profiles to the originals ;)

That's mighty nice of you to say, thank you! Looking at the ~7 months I've spent collecting traditionals, I've held onto less than half of them. I love the ones I've kept, though.

Thanks! I didn't know Buck used 440C on these (I thought they were 420HC). Neat.

A few new ones I've picked up in the last month or so.

Just a little information about this one. I picked it up because I am a Ford fan. After buying it I did some researching and found out that it was an advertising for a small record player that you could place onto your "Hip". This was truly the 1st Walkman. http://cultureandcommunication.org/deadmedia/index.php/Hip_Pocket_Records

This one was a gift from a friend at work. My 1st Case knife.

I was able to score this from a buddy in Montana. He's getting back into custom guns so he let go of a few of his beauties. Northfield 85 in red stag!! No editing on these pics...I wanted to show the color variation without tampering with it.

...
Congrats, Jake!:thumbup: I think teardrops in general are fantastic, and to get an 85 with those stag covers ... Oh, my!!:cool:

Some stonewashed blue jigged bone, got this in as a surprise from Paul. After we discussed a 79 workhorse Bob had modded for him he told me out of the he was sending me something else and this was it. Jigged bone is some wonderful stuff in hand. Thank you bud, your generosity knows no bounds.

Congrats, Tim; that's a sensational 79 from an even better man!!:thumbup: Paul is uncommonly generous (and thoughtful, and knowledgeable)!:cool:

Today's mail included this 2004 Schatt & Morgan Baby Sunfish in goldenroot jigged bone:

The recent thread on Wildcat Drillers got me interested in this pattern, but also made me want a smaller, equal-end version that retained the beefy feel of a full-size sunfish. The jigging sold me on this particular knife. I actually prefer the pile side, which has sharper ridges, deeper troughs, and more jig marks. The mark side is smoother and more contoured, and reminds me a bit of wet seeds.

What is this style of jigging called? In poking around, it looks closest to jigging I've seen referred to as "Rogers" or "Rodgers," but that term appears to be widely used and sometimes, perhaps, misused.
Congrats, Dadpool; that's a sumptuous sunfish with jaw-dropping jigging!!:eek::thumbup:

5K Qs, I finally finished up the owl. Not too bad for my first ever attempt at carving. I'm not going to give it up...way too much fun!

Holy owl ovaries, Robert!! That's your very first carving project??:eek: That's first-rate, IMHO!!:thumbup: What do you think you'll try next?

Amazing acquisitions, jb, at preposterous prices!! Congratulations!:cool:

This new 77 Yankee Jack in cocobolo has been in my pocket since Christmas morning. The guys that put these together just like my little 15 jack didn't hold back at all! There is no way I can capture the real beauty of this knife on my crappy cell phone!
...
That pile side photo looks incredible to me, Peter; I can see an internal glow from those covers!:thumbup: Merry Christmas, for sure!

Just came this morning.

Thanks, me too.

I call it a set. They were all at the bottom of the same pile of rusty old knives on the table. Must have come from the same estate sale, since Western isn't the most common brand hereabouts. It was a lucky day of hunting, for sure.

GEC Bull Nose just delivered with afternoon mail. Not quite as fancy as the most recent posts, but a joy to have in my pocket for New Year's Eve.

My newest is this custom Jack ONeill fixed blade:

VfX9RU2.jpg

6 3/4" overall length, stabilized buckeye burl scales, aluminum mosaic pins, black liners, and 154 CM steel. Those are range marks on the sheath, which I love. :)

This is going to make a great camping knife: 5/32" thick, full tang, and small but hand-filling -- perfect for not terrifying other campers, but tough and capable enough to handle just about any camp chore. It's a pleasure to handle, and that burl! :D:eek::D

Jack was fantastic to work with, a true gentleman and a superb knifemaker. (He posts here as ONeill.)

Some very interesting and varied arrivals lately, always rewarding to see others' tastes.

OMR Congratulations on the capture of a 38 Whittler, my Knife of the Year (pocket) actually, I have some of them and think they're fantastic: none too heavy, svelte in the hand, fine blade assortment, very beautiful and excellent finish. The backspring is very impressive indeed.

This arrived yesterday, so it's the last knife of 15 first of 16. Arrived rather filthy, but a good wash & brush up sorted it out. RR Mini Copperhead, excellent quality.

5K Qs, is it necessary to re-post every picture ? Why not comment without taking up a huge amount of space re-posting pictures ? You make the thread 'bulky', meaning everyone has to scroll through 10 or more pictures they have already seen to be able to read the posts that follow yours.
I'm posting this here rather than PM'ing you so that i can ask: Does it bug anyone else ? If it's just me i'll shut up and accept that this is how others like it.
