That's some great looking bone!

My last new arrival for a while. Feels like I've been in a whirlwind of new knives the last couple months, and it's time to take a step back, and enjoy the ones I have, rather than keep looking for the next one. Hopefully I last longer than a week this time :) This forum makes that really hard sometimes :o

Little late to the party with this one, but it took a while to find the one I wanted. 2009 Case/Bose Norfolk in antique jigged bone. Slim in the pocket, nice blade selection, great size for me at 3.75" closed, and man, do they do a great job of the bone on the Case/Bose collaborations!

You got a nice one, Mike! My Norfolk is one of my favorite knives. I occasionally think I'd like one in that nice bone too. Congrats!

One sweet knife!!! Thanks for the look

I got this today at an estate sale for $5, and I really think that it is a diamond in the rough. It looks mostly unused and is in excellent shape with good snap. It just looks like it needs the spa treatment. It isn't a high value collectible and does not have exotic handles, but it is just a nice knife. It is unusual to me in that it is a 3 blade stockman with 3 springs. That's new to me anyway. It is 3 7/8" closed, and the main blade is etched "Ranger Ultra Honed".

As has already been stated, I believe Ranger is an upmarket Colonial product. I will come across a Ranger every so often (usually a stockman or jack) but they seem to bid out of my range pretty often, and I have yet to encounter one at a sale or shop. The sheepsfoot in particular looks like a nice sturdy FFG blade, and aside from the issues with composite shrinkage (not really Colonial's fault, just a simple fact of the material) it seems to have held together really nicely. I also like that it's a three-spring stockman, it reminds me of my Buck 303 in that way.

I think an analogous "imprint" is Durango, which pop up from time to time and seem to be upmarket/solid-bolstered versions of Colonial's Barlows. Here is the one example I own, the first pic is cropped out of a group shot (so please excuse the pixelization :o) and the second shows it with a group of Colonials:

The pen blades on those Colonials are no joke!

Hopefully you will post some "after" photos of the Ranger, too, as well as a brief rundown of what you did/what you used to make it shine. I'm always looking for better methods to clean up some of my clunkers, because I feel like some of them will "doll up" into some really pretty knives.

It was a good day. :D
