Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

Stopped off at an antique store yesterday. These three baubles are what I came home with. A Schrade Walden 825 in Stainless, a Western S-901 A (made in '77), and a brass compass that had a tag that read WWI era.

...
Here's two which arrived this week but Photobucket's fits have prevented me from showing them.

Schatt & Morgan Gents' stag Mini Barlow. It is really small at 6.5 cm/2.6" but it is certainly still a meaningful knife. ....

Rough Rider Tiny Barlow in Smooth White Bone. 7.25 cm/2.9" Doesn't sound much bigger but it makes a lot of difference. ...

I can recommend both of them.
...
Nice ones, Will; congrats! I'm planning to pick up some smooth white bone from Rough Rider, but haven't decided on a pattern yet. Might be a Barlow (what size??), or it might be a marlin spike model.

My birthday present from my wife, my first barlow, a #77 Blackwood...
Superior birthday gift!!

I picked up 3 new members of the family at our St. Louis Knife Collectors show today. A custom Stek in damascus and teak, a Camillus scout and a Winchester scout.
...
Tremendous trio, Tom!

In the mail yesterday were the 2 newest additions to my sheep family all clad in fine linen. :D
...
Congrats, Ron; handsome pair! How do these sheepsfoot 47s compare to a Sodbuster Jr or GEC Bull Nose?

...This is my latest an ABL army jack knife unused.love it.
Excellent! Looks fantastic!

I got this Ebony Presidential in on Saturday. It will be taking turns with the Burgundy as an EDC.
...
Congrats, Dean! Those Presidentials certainly are well-named: they're so stately!

Here are some new ones I picked up this week: a Rough Rider Whittlin' Buddy, a Rough Rider lockback dogleg mini canoe (that's quite a mouthful), and a Colt stag canoe.

That Whittlin' Buddy looks interesting, GT. I've never seen a pattern like that before.

Dean, it's Rough Rider's version of a "dedicated folding wood carving knife", similar to the Oar Carver or the Flexcut Whittlin' Jack. It's BIG, 5 inches closed, so a user has plenty of handle to help prevent fatigue in a long whittling session. Unfortunately, it's looking like my next long whittling session will be Memorial Day!:D

Tough choice. I have both the barlow and the marlin spike in smooth white bone, and you can't go wrong with either. The marlin is pretty big, but that gives you more room to scrimshaw! :D

I really like that Whittlin Buddy. I thought I was done buying Rough Riders, but I'm tempted now.

Dean - Nice to see you have turned into a 2 term Presidential!:D

Gary - Thanks for compliment!:) Now let me see if I can do a comparison for you. The Hayn' Helper has a Sheepfoot blade, the Bull Nose and Sodbuster have drop point blades.:rolleyes: LOL :D Seriously these 2 knives have some of the best fit and finish I have ever seen. I almost had to get a magnifier to see the joints between the scales and back spring, they look seamless. Basically you can use these for the same cutting tasks that you would use any straight edge blade. IMO, one of the best bargains in a well made work utility knife on the market.

Hey Tom! Those knives look strangely familiar! :) Nice haul! Renee and I just got back home.

I picked up this 2016 Queen Railsplitter in Blue Bone from Ryan Daniels. This is cow bone, not camel bone in case anyone is wondering. Had a very pleasant chat with Ryan. Found out some great news about a change in the 2016 and future models. I hope Ryan doesn't mind me spilling the beans, so to speak. From here on out all Queen shields will be pinned. No more glued shields from now on regardless of the knife or covers. If it has a shield, it's pinned. This includes all 2016 and later knives. Excellent news! Bravo Queen!

Oh yeah, here's my new Railsplitter.

Nice haul guys! Unfortunately I couldn't make it there yesterday since I work on Saturdays. I did go this morning and it seemed like there were a bunch of Scout knives and Pruners there. Some of the displays were neat also. Lots of really cool stuff to look at including a small display case full of tiny knives that were about 1/2" closed. I can't imagine working on something that small!

I talked to Ryan too and picked up this S&M Gunstock. White bone and CPM154.

Two Queen Cuts from the knife show in STL Saturday. The Barlow, because my son loved the gnarly stage scales (it's for his b-day) & the Serpentine. Glad to hear they'll be pinning shields, it fell off the Barlow saturday while showing my wife. The knives are beautiful:thumbup:; scrolling the liners is a nice touch. I think my expectations for fit & finish are to high for a knife that's not custom. So i was told. Ryan had a line there that had better & thicker steel but he didn't have a small double blade and the stag didn't appeal to my son on the Barlow but i'm going to look for that upgraded version of my Serpentine. I'm thankful for what i could get and the day was a blast.

i love 'em! Thank You QCC & Ryan.

Lots of new Barlows lately along with some other real fine additions!

These are the "as purchased" photos for my 4 newest additions. The Boker is going to get blade de-gunking followed by the full dress-up treatment, and I'm going to try and "formalize" the gouge that the Case's previous owner put in the handles by making it into a proper EO and adding a small nail nick notch on the pile side for the simiilarly-sunken pen blade. The Sabre and Primble will get cleaned, oiled, and probably not much else.

Many thanks for the write up. Interesting point arises: my Schatt Gents' Barlow in Stag has what looks exactly like a pin-hole in the liner corresponding to where the shield is. The shield is really nicely inlet into the stag and I'm almost certain it is pinned. Odd that yours is glued (or was...)?? Yes, the engraved liners are a nice touch on these, even if it is hard to appreciate it except by squint:D

These are very nice small knives, my Barlow cut up a large Pear with no difficulties. What I would really like to see on future Schatts is a return to nickle-silver liners or stainless, no big brass fan me.

Regards, Will

A new arrival I know next to nothing about. A Master Quality stock/carpenter's knife before any cleanup.

So far the collected minds of BF have determined that it was built for Montgomery Ward likely by Utica, though I think mine is a later example of the brand. The spey has the tiniest bit of side play while the other two blades lock up nicely. A little cleaning and oiling and into the stockman rotation it goes.

Thanks for the mini-review, Ron. :) It's great to see how excited you are over picking up your new Hayn Helpers!:D

My last new arrival for a while. Feels like I've been in a whirlwind of new knives the last couple months, and it's time to take a step back, and enjoy the ones I have, rather than keep looking for the next one. Hopefully I last longer than a week this time :) This forum makes that really hard sometimes :o

Little late to the party with this one, but it took a while to find the one I wanted. 2009 Case/Bose Norfolk in antique jigged bone. Slim in the pocket, nice blade selection, great size for me at 3.75" closed, and man, do they do a great job of the bone on the Case/Bose collaborations!
