Yeap. It's funny how traditionals can be "overbuilt" but yet they perform so well with their relatively thin blades.

I never really understood blade etching myself either. I am not as bothered with them as I used to be but I prefer none.

Well, something amazing just happened today. The GEC Elephant Toenail above is my first GEC ever, and among my first traditionals I ever bought if not the first one (I can't remember) (and if not SAKs count).
I - by some reason - sold the knife that five six years ago. Those times were pretty restless for my knife collecting, so I ended up selling it. Two days ago I asked the guy if he wanted to trade it back, and he said sure thing.
Today it finally arrived, and it is the old love affair again! I will never let this thing go again!

Carried this one yesterday on my hike ...
Oily bone H60 a sfo from JSR, the handle is much more comfortable in use than the micarta H50 that I have. Surprisingly they weight about the same in hand.
Will definitely take this on many hiking and camp trips this year, wears real nice in the belt sheath.
The balance point is right between the shield and the pin by the guard....which is not too bad. As a lefty I can cross draw and do a subtle flip in the palm.

I love the nick/long pull combination on some of these.

(Full disclosure: I hated the nick/long pull combination on some of these, deeming them among the most ridiculous of redundancies ever, until I saw a picture of an old knife sporting the same. I was suddenly, irrationally smitten. I sought out my own #36, in red grizzle-jigged bone, specifically to get the same combination.)

So: were you able to get the blade open this time around, or did it come that way?

Thanks for this post. In all the pictures of the JSR SFO, the H60 has not shown the pile side. I was not sure that they put the acorn shield on the knife.
I don't have a H60 in my GEC fixed blade collection, and now I'm tempted.
Is yours 440c or 1095 ?

I got the teardrop today. Overall I'm pretty pleased with it, the cover on the opposite side is really light colored near the bolsters from too much polishing but other than that the fit and finish is pretty nice.
