Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

After several months of "window shopping" and putting numerous knives on my "wish list" at a couple of dealers, I finally spent several months of my knife budget in a buying frenzy a couple of weeks ago. Some of the knives I bought were, as usual, canoes.

A Rough Rider Christmas canoe with some fancy features:

Some filework on the springs looks like each spring was done by a different craftsman!

I've been wanting to try a canoe, but have been holding off, telling myself to enjoy and get to know the patterns I already have. GT, you are not helping! ;)

Seriously, though, I really like that Robt. Klaas!

Sorry to be a bad influence, Greg! ;)
I think I have more canoes than any other pattern, and I'm still not sure why. I really like the symmetry and the sunk joints of the canoe, and the single-spring models (of which I only have a couple) are pleasantly slender, but the canoe's two blades are almost identical except for size. On the other hand, spear and pen are probably my favorite blade shapes, so maybe that redundancy isn't that bad to me!

Thanks for the Klaas kompliment; I've been looking at that canoe forever, and finally someone at BF posted that it was a nice knife, and that's all I needed to make my order. :D

GT You are up the creek now buddy. I have a few canoes also. the fancy stuff on the RR christmas canoe looks terrific!...but partial to the Buck canoes also.

As for me...this Mustang just came in. First Elk covers. I wished they were thicker, less sanded so smooth, but as a single blade larger folder feels good in my lefty grip. The pins are flush!!! love that Acorn shield. Nice solid 6 pull.

This one has been on my want it list for a while, but always seemed to get bumped. Recently, I decided it was time, so I finally broke down and ordered me a punch stockman. I think we're going to get along just fine :D

All right guys, I promised some open photos of the Friedrich Hartkopf and my quick thoughts. I hope the people who wanted this get reached, but maybe I make proper review later.

First, I got to say that capturing the beauty of that horn is very tricky! Also I apologize about the smudge in the blades. :o

PROS:
Overall finish is great! Everything has that nice shine, besides that little micro scratching probably from curious customers (the saleswoman was very nervous when I was just looking around, like I was going to do something stupid by any minute. I could relate to her pain thinking all kinds of non-knife customers). Transition between scales and bolsters is smooth and pleasant! Walk on blades is very pleasant.

At least on mine, edges seem to have very nice sharpening job.

CONS:
Backside tools, or the cork screw and punch are bit hard to open, and their walk is bit stiff (could change over time). Small spear blade rubs bit to the liner.

NOTES:
No bail, as you can see. That can be either good or bad. I think it's refreshing change. Punch/awl seems serious. I haven't tried it yet but it got pretty sharp edge on it, so it could be like the victorinox awl I love.

That's it for now!

...

I really like the dimpled texture of the bone on that Klaas, GT! Good looking knife. They could call it "golf ball jigged bone." :D

Thanks, A.L., Steve, and Barrett. :) Barrett, I like your golf ball jigged bone description of the Klaas canoe. ;) It also reminds me, at least to some extent, of a Colt teardrop jack I have with "buckshot bone" covers:

Today was Mustang day! The "backwards Viper" is a nifty knife; I really like the choices GEC made with this one.

Late afternoon/early evening in Seattle on a cloudy day gets all the credit! When I can time it right, it's lovely light for knife photos.

Looks like lots of great new additions this week all :)

I received a surprise mail call today...

All the way from Sheffield!

I'd like to blame Jack Black for this one, but I'll just thank him for being such a bad influence

It is very nice! Thick slabs of ebony, and my first Lambfoot blade :)
