Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

It's the form factor, the informed lineage, the extraordinary bone, the non-threatening, pinchable uniqueness of the full-length yet snubby blade, the details of worked bolster and bail, all adding up to a knife greater than the whole. Pocketable history, no better blade in one's current daily days.

All this and more, right in your hands, your pocket, your life!

Well: You must have it right. Who could argue with that impassioned explanation.

This Winchester Cartridge Series 4-blade sowbelly in burnt orange bone arrived last week. It came with several blade rubs from the previous owner, but it's still a cool knife. The bone on these is really nice (to me anyway!).

I am not a huge sowbelly fan, but that knife is just downright interesting. Very nice.

NICE picture Sarah:cool::thumbup:

Yep.
Pretty cool pic

Sarah, that's a great picture. Much nicer scenery out your window than mine right now. Here is just cold, gray, and snowy.

Wonderful picture! :)

Thanks, guys! Nay, John, I'm in the raw damp myself (PA); the picture is from September.

The setting makes it better yet: the Lookout that shipbuilder Thomas Kemp built into his 1813 home, up against the interior of an end chimney, from which he could watch [for his] ships in the Chesapeake Bay.

[Kemp's most famous ship is the Chasseur/Pride of Baltimore, a clipper which gave the British fits during in the War of 1812.]

I could have sworn I made a post about all this, but it seems not(!). I'll gather my images together, and hie me to the Navy Knife thread anon.

Thanks! Who knows, but it could be possible. The pitting is deep indeed partially, but the close up pictures make it bit more dramatic than it is I guess. I hope the knife will be fine despite this, and it will be carried only on Sunday type of gentle(man) carry. :)
I did little bit of cleanup and oiling for the joints so I hope it will give this knife a bit more refreshment. :)

Very cool regardless, adds character.

My newest addition just arrived in todays' mail. The DLT SFO 74.

The bone match is very good. Pull is a little strong but we'll see. I like this blade shape for this knife.

Yes it does have a tiny bent over area in the mark side bolster where a groove in the jigging goes right under the bolster. From dead on top you can't see it?

I did not get a picture but the centering is dead on. Altogether a really nice piece.

Very nice Alan! I have a few GEC and Case knives with similar spots where the jigging goes to the end like that. I don't think it's bent so much as it's been maybe "rough-buffed" into the low area. Those bolsters are solid.

GE: You're description is more accurate than mine. It's kind of pushed in a little. Doesn't bother me. Unlike the four CC SFO's I've acquired I plan on using this one regularly. Not sure it that's rational but that seems to be how I a sorting them.

Looking good. I'm still waiting for my #73 jack to arrive, I guess the post isn't the most effective around New Year. I hope mine will be well centered as well, which it should, judging by the pictures. I wouldn't mind that "bent" area too much, I've got them on each bolster of my Case peanut. I admit, might not look perfect, but as long it makes a smooth transition it's ok with me.

Thanks. I've concluded that I would rather have the jigging all the way to the bolster instead of the smooth buffed out area you see a lot. So, I guess it comes with this minor flaw. The other side is the same as far as the jigging but no dimple in the bolster. Probably as GE JR said it got a little rough buffing. I was amazed at how quickly this arrived. I made this purchase on 12/30 as soon as I got the email from my reservation on DLT. Arrived today from WI over the weekend and with a Holiday in there! Hope your 73 shows up and you love it!

Looks really good Alan.

Thanks Alan. I'm happy with how it came out. I think we talked about, I have a two blade trapper #73 in stag, and it was just too much for me to carry. So, I am selling it on the Bay. I like the thin profile of this single blade guy.

Thanks. It's still in Chicago atm, I think it should arrive sometime next week or so. Takes a bit longer to get it across the pond. :D I was concerned because there was no update on the location for almost a full week, I got scared they misplaced it. :S
