Today’s addition is one that is significant to me, so please excuse what might be a rather lengthy explanation:

As a retired soldier who carried a Victorinox SAK for his whole career I have a strong affinity for the Model 1961 93mm Alox Soldier and the many variations thereof.

Trying to collect *all* the models from a company that makes tens of thousands of knives a *day* and produced innumerable small-run “SFOs” for collectors clubs, private organizations, and individual dealers around the world—not to mention knives in a dizzying array of color shades—would be folly, so I restricted myself to the “modern shield” silver Alox regular production models...of which there are 12.

Nine are readily available and inexpensive. One, the “Settler,” is fairly inexpensive but difficult to find. Another, the “Electrician Plus,” is also difficult to locate and can bring a premium price. The final one, the “First Mate,” is like hen’s teeth (Victorinox states only 550-600 were made), and the asking prices can border on silly.

Four years of searching finally bore fruit, and I’m very happy indeed.

This one arrived recently.
It’s clearly had a hard life, I’m torn between the owner being too cheap to buy a new knife, or valuing this one too much to retire it.
The scales have been ground down where they’ve broken, both blades have seen a grinder at some point, and both kicks have been ground down - much too low in the case of the pen blade. I’ve fixed that for now by putting a bit of cable insulation in the well, that the blade sits on when closed.

Edit: I’m obviously having some trouble sharing the image. Do I have to use something other than Dropbox?
