Just got in the castle berg boker club. It doesnt seem as nice as the ironwood version but it does have the lower price tag. The wood being from the ancestral home of the counts von berg is a real kicker to me as the counts are my ancestors (nothing too special most people here probably descend from them too).
What is the closed length of that, i saw a Boker cattle knife that i liked but it was far to big for my liking, but i like that. And what is the main blade type.

Its flatter than i would have thought but makes sense and helps it in the pocket. I also like oak so thats a plus automatically. The more i handle it, the more i like (aint that always the case with quality knives?). I cant help but think i should keep the wood oiled since it has such a rustic feel.

Closed length is 3 11/16. It has a spear point blade. It only has the single blade.

A light oil occasionally should be okay, but if you carry it regularly, the oils from your hand will preserve the wood. But if you do decide to oil it remember less is more.

Thanks all.

Ive been carrying the beer and sausage everyday after i get home and the blade and handle shape(equal end cigar?) helped push me to pick up this knife.

I will say this has got one heavy pull especially when youve been using the beer and sausage knife a lot. I was thinking the oil from my hands might be sufficient.

So how are you liking it?! KnifeCenter just started carrying it (although it's still a bit cheaper if I buy overseas for some reason), and I've been going back and forth on it. The price is considerably higher than what I paid for my blackwood, curly birch, and bog oak barlow (and even a little more expensive than my Castle barlow)... But man is it gorgeous!

*Edit
Well... I think this was just settled by the wife. I asked her to come over to the computer and tell me why I don't need yet another Boker barlow. She comes over and the first thing out of her mouth is "God it's beautiful!"

Guess I should just pull the trigger, lol.

^^^^lols. I saw the post yesterday and said I guess I am owning another Boker Barlow. A little pricey at $150 but I already have a tracking number! You guys are killing my pocketbook!!

New to me but far from new:)
Trying to date it but cant figure if it's 18 or 1900's. Interesting piece with a few cool aspects to its build, harder steel than most too.

Very impressive Horn knife. I would GUESS it's pre 1920s but why not post it in the Sheffield a Golden Age? 1830-1930 thread? You could get useful answers there, not that all the knives there are golden or even from the era ;):D

The overseas dealer I saw wanted $65 shipping, which made it about the same as if I bought it from the US dealer. I had to return a knife not long ago to a dealer across the pond and shipping was on me, lesson learned. Just went ahead and got it from US dealer. When my wife sees it she won’t say it beautiful, she’ll say, “Which knife are you going to sell to pay for it?” I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it, for now, put me in the “I just bought another Boker Barlow I didn’t need club”!:)

I like it. The action was initially a bit rough but is smoothing out with use and a little oil. Probably should do a flush and re-lube. I love the look and feel of the micarta and bead-blasted brass. It'll be interesting to see how a patina develops on this over time.
