I hope to travel the same road as yourselfSpear points have grown on me — maybe the best all-arounders when all is said and done. They don’t look quite as racing fast or whatever, but they make more sense to me the more I use them. GEC may be my undoing. ;-)
I don't think I said it in this thread, but I'd love to get a stockman with a punch. A punch seems infinitely more useful than a pen/spey secondary. I did read an interesting philosophy somewhere about blade use on a stockman. The idea was basically keep your clip as your "emergency" blade. If you primarily use the sheepsfoot and pen/spey, then when you really need something really razor sharp your clip will be ready. If you primarily use the clip and sheepsfoot and you really need something razor sharp, you're likely stuck trying to use your pen/spey secondary. I tried this for a little while but broke down and went back to neglecting the pen/speyAnd yeah, that pen knife … it’s kind of like an emergency backup since it’s never used for anything else!
Not sure if there are the right words to describe how insanely awesome this one is, B!Albers Cutlery Lamb Foot in CPM-154 and Raffir stabilized mammoth ivory.

I think blade preference often is one based on aesthetics but the pattern itself can have an impact. On the whole I prefer a Spear blade to a Clip especially in a pattern like a Teardrop or in single-blade form, they also lie lower in the frame so that I like., Penknife construction for instance. However, on three blade knives my choice is for Clip, just looks and works better, maybe it's the serp frame. GEC's 82 frame offers a brilliant blade assortment: Californian Clip master with Drop-Point and Wharncliffe secondaries. For sure on the punch … the harness jacks have been calling to me lately.
And poking really seems to be the argument for a clip. I’m not really sure I understand different blade shapes TBH even after reading about them and observing my own use. Some things are obvious, but at other levels, I wonder if it’s just some idea I got as a kid. Because I do seem to like the clip shape even though I don’t have a great argument for it.
