Your Two Cents!

That is quite a list that Larry gathered, Jon. Thanks for locating it.
I like the idea of putting a knife down, for someone to pick up. Makes sense when you think about it!

I saw in the British Museum that coins evolved from knives. Back in the old days(BC) they would use knives and billets as currency in trade. These were then chopped into pieces for lesser value and change.
Then followed the weighted stamped coins with royal heads .Then gold etc etc. Perhaps too tenuous a connection ?

I have a penny from Jack Black. A Victorian era penny. I need to take a picture of it.

I have some nice coins from Jack as well but my Mom is in the Hosp right now and I have had to put almost everything else on hold...will get pics of the coins when I can.

Thanks again Jack!

You're very welcome my friend, hope your mom is better soon.

can I see a picture or a link to what you are talking about please?

my google-fu turned up this about knife money, but the money was not actually a knife, just sort of looks like it. Curiously, the money was 40-60% copper, also a stretch to the use of a copper penny as payment for a knife in current lore.

These knives used to be very common here.

I saw one in the market last week, quite regret not buying it now :)

Fascinating knives in your culture Jack, I had not seen one of those before, as with many of the ones you post. Forgive my numismatic ignorance, but, what is that coin, and is it copper? I suspect a coin handled knife will be part of the Wizards quest this weekend.

It helps explain why some people give a knife with a coin, and some give a coin in return for a knife

Thanks for that link Jon, very interesting

That's neat! Does the coin slide in and out? It reminds me of penny loafers. We used to slide in a dime instead of the penny, so we could make a phone call in an emergency. (penny loafers, 10 cent pay phones. Very last century :D )

Was finally able to do Jack's beautiful coins justice (content wise, pix are still marginal)!

Jack's coins surrounding my Schrade IXL Stockman! That wonderful Joseph Rodgers "Year Knife" postcard completes the composition.

Very sorry for the slow reply Jon, that's actually a farthing, it was the lowest value pre-decimal British coin (made from copper alloy), went out of circulation about 1960 I think.

Good idea! :) I haven't handled one of these since I was a boy, but as far as I recall the coin can be removed, but not instantly. If I see another, I'll snap it up! :)

Thanks again Jack!
