Zero Tolerance knives what is all the hype?

And let me further clarify that my comments are coming from a ZT owner whom has/had about 7-8 different models. I currently will have a ZT301 AND ZT0560 for sale soon as I need to fund my latest acquisition

My current ZT family. I may also have a 0550 Gen 1 around somewhere. Would like to find a 0561 Gen 2 (lockbar insert) someday.

Let me explain to some degree. They are good in quality. Materials are the same as other high end manufacturers like Ti, G10 etc. They are typically decently well built and offer cheaper variants of your favorite builders that are more mass produced and readily available without a crazy price tag because of this (Ken Onion, Hinderer etc). They also offer an excellent warranty/service deal with free lifetime manufacturer sharpening. I mean it's really a decent brand.
That pretty much sums it up all right. :)

Hell yeah, how was it done, did you do it yourself?

I did not, I purchased it already pimped from a friend of mine here who had it done by a user here named Maprik. I am told (and have seen pics) of work he's done on other 0801s. If mine is any indication of the quality, I can't recommend him highly enough.

Wow. Eight ZT's? That's a majority of their lineup. Now, I can't speak for anyone else, but if I eat a something I don't like (for example, an apple I pulled from a bag which happens to be rotten), one (hell, one bite) is generally enough before I decide that I'm not into eating rotten apples. No way would I eat eight of 'em before coming to the decision that rotten apples just aren't for me.

I don't disagree, but I really wanted to like them.
I love the looks and Ti frame locks so I kept trying different ones. The 0200 is still a great knife in my opinion and one of the best as far as ergo's in the hand but all of them ended up in my toolbox at work so it just wasn't there when I needed it.

The good thing is everyone else likes them so I was able to trade into some great knives that I actually do use.

In retrospect, that was a dick comment on my part and I apologize. I hadn't meant it that harshly, and frankly your statement above (in bold) explains it all. I've done the same thing with many different things in my life, bought an item, or gone to a restaurant, or whatever because I absolutely wanted to experience what others appreciated, but at the end of the day just couldn't appreciate for myself even with multiple tries. Again, sorry about the tone brother, and hey I'm glad you did find some good knives which make you happy!

9 pages and still going...

Haters are just gonna hate, fan-boys (myself included) will continue to defend the brand. However here are 3 points that seem to be in a constant state of debate:

1. Hard use is a term that means different things to different people. I have a few friends that are welders and carry Gerbers. They beat the hell out of them and no matter how much science and knowledge i drop on them they still feel they are the best hard use knives they own. They are not wrong in their own opinions.

2. Any lock system can fail, its not specific to a brand. Engineering has alot do do with it, so does manufacturing. ZT simply manufactures more knives than most other manufactures. Common sense dictates that they will then have a few more duds, as QC isnt an exact science. Lock failure isnt always a direct result of a lack of quality manufacturing.....dont rule out user error. Most of the time it occurs, something is done to the knife that it wasn't intended to do (spine wackers, im talking to you). the framelock vs linerlock argument has nothing to do with ZT, its a matter of prefrence based on the desired use of the tool.

3. People will always do stupid things with their knives, thats fine, its their knife. Just dont think that a knife manufactured for hard use means it can be abused. Just because you can baton a folding knife doesnt mean you should. I've seen examples of premium and custom fixed blades & folders crack & break due to batoning .....it comes down to the right tool for the job.

I like ZT...they are a decent knife at a good price.

Why do you insist on being full of it? There's no "Hard Use" on ZT's boxes anywhere at all. It's one thing to have an opinion, another to just make up bullcrap to try to stir crap up. Like titanium on one brand can feel like plastic on another it suddenly doesn't, when you make statements like that yes we will take joy in correcting you. And while you may not have said those exact words, fact is the knives you claim to be vastly superior are made with the exact same materials and have basically the same locking systems.

Where's the "Hard Use"?

It's on their website.

If a company wants to make their knives for "hard use" and market them as such that's their choice.

Hard use is very loosely used. What's hard use to you? They are more than a knife you can cut tape and boxes with. We can't dispute that. BUT, what you determine "hard use" might be small fries compared to a deployed troop in Afghanistan.

No worries.
Truth is when I first came on the forum ZT was hot and between Kershaw Dave and Blade HQ, I bought them all in a very short period of time...maybe 2 or 3 months.

I like my only ZT but I have came to the conclusion that they are just way too overbuilt for my EDC needs. My 0350 is an impressive little beast that I plan on keeping but I reach for my Sage 1 more times than not.

Oh, hell. As great as they are, the best thing about ZT is that's the knife Gibbs uses on NCIS.:D

Hey Quiet, I've seen you do this a couple of times lately. Just wanted to say it is refreshing to see someone take responsibility and show a bit of humility. Good on you! This would be a lot more pleasant forum if more folks followed your example. Anyway, it's not just you...I have to clean up behind myself too. (More than I would like). I guess in a perfect world I would just never be a dick but the world isn't perfect and neither am I. ;) Best I can do is to be accountable.
