Zt 0392 SOUND OFF!

Yeah, I guess I expected a new knife to look new...

That's the thing. Like another poster said, it features Rick's "working finish" which gives it a really worn in look. It's said to hide scratches and such from use.

As for the screws and standoffs, I'm sure someone will make some aftermarket hardware. Just give it some time.

OK, I heard back from KAI so I will post up what I have... My camera can't really show how bad it looks, But the pivot screw is very worn looking. I guess I would call it a thin anodizing that already has this wear on it.. Its basicly a different color ... You can see how it "should" look in the deep part of the screw slot. There is also a circular scratch right through the anodizing showing the silver color underneath...I was not trying to be picky, my eye jumped right to it when I opened up, its extremely noticeable in hand vs pictures. I also have 2 standoffs that purple instead of blue. I can't for the life of me get it to show up in photos though... The shadows of the Ti messes up the photo.

I guess I thought for a $400 limited edition with a fancy box and coa, it would have been in "show piece" condition when new...

Maybe I'm wrong, But I am disappointed.

Btw-- KAI said "this is how they are."

If your a member on the green forum, they have a sub forum there. Why not make a post and see what they say?

What do you guys think about the knife itself?

I'm very impressed with the overall build quality and how it feels in hand. To me, this does not look nor feel like a $400 knife...its so much closer to a heavy duty custom than any other ZT I own.

I absolutely LOVE how thick they made the titanium scales on this one. The detent is the strongest of any knife I own, but I've scheduled index finger pushups later so that user issue will be solved.

I totally agree! My detent is perfect.... try to not press the lockbar whole opening... lightens it up.

This knife has grown on me even more. I can't seem to understand why everyone is dumping them other than to make a quick buck, easily my favorite production knife I've ever had. I'll even say it is better than some customs that I have had. At first it was not even on my radar and I didn't care for the look of the knife...............things have changed for me!

Even if I switch it to my left hand to make certain that there is no pressure on the lockbar, its just very, very strong but I shall get it worked out. With my right hand I'm making sure that the only pressure on the lockbar side is being applied to the side of the clip pushing up not in, if that makes any sense...I'm not pressing on the lockbar. <grin> After having a Benchmade Skirmish open in my pocket and cut me pretty bad I've learned to appreciate the stronger detent. I'll get it figured it, I only own about 11 or 12 flippers. This knife now has me looking down my nose at every $400 folder I own and certainly raises the bar as to what a $400 folder can be.

Yeah, I guess I expected a new knife to look new... I also have a hard time wrapping my head around ZT response of "that's how they are" this knife looks stupid with the wrong colored hardware on it and the thin anodizing...

I was told up thread that "this is how rick Hinderer makes his hardware, with a thin coat thay wears off easily" Why would any one want rick Hinderer hardware if he sucks at anodizing?

Again, the picture sucks at showing the contrast between the colors, its extremely obvious that the stand off is anything but blue...straight up purple...

That's indeed how Hinderer's hardware is anodized; the "blue" hardware falls within a range of possible hues and chroma of blue, and the knife is finished specifically to look worn since it more effectively hides additional wear.

Sorry it doesn't meet your expectations, but it seems like you didn't do enough research to know what you were getting with your $400.

Once thing I've noticed carrying it is due to the pocket clip location, the notch to reduce the lock spring stiffness catches on the pocket going in and out. Not a big issue and I'm sure it will get better as the edges/corners are rounded with wear.

Anyone else notice the bearing assembly on the 392 is silver, while the other KVTs are light blue? I don't know what the difference is, but the 392 has the best flipping action of any ZT I own.

They switched to a caged bearing instead of a sealed bearing. It was mentioned earlier in one of the threads. Probably due to the Hinderer pivot and clearances (the pockets seem to quite a bit smaller).

Can anybody post a photo of a 0392 that has been used

How about a 0392 that's been carried?

In a few months I will repeat these questions and venture a guess the numbers will be the same.

Just think, with the way the secondary market is you can beat one into a coma and still sell it for a profit!!!

who's going to post the first user photo?

Used and carried mine today.........cut a giant burrito in half, effortlessly. :D

Carried mine for a week and a half until my XM-18 came. I haven't used it hard, but I've definitely used it. I love the finish, it hides everything.

I think this one will be used and carried more than any of the previous LE ZT models. First because of the unique work finish, secondly because there will be more of this collaboration in the future.

In the 3 weeks I've had mine, it's dominated pocket time. The other knives are feeling left out.

Can post a pic of mine yet because UPS is taking their sweet time getting it to me. Once it's here it will be a user. It gets tiring hearing people constantly assume others don't use their knives. There are plenty of us on here that use knives. Doesn't matter how much they cost or how rare they are. I buy knives to use and so do other people.

Seriously? I should have researched that Hinderers anodizing may or may not be complete on the hardware and "its just the way they are?" Bizarre to me.

I like the working finish. I don't like the fact that my pivot is scratched up and is lacking a proper finish... Please explain to me why Hinderer hardware is so popular?
