Zt 0392 SOUND OFF!

Do you suppose the Hinderer custom version works differently?

I noticed on production hinderers It was kind of a technique to push down and get the blade to fire right. not sure about the customs but the flipper tab is built similarly

I never said that I could replicate the exact color. I said it shouldn't be hard for someone like Rick Hinderer to get consistent results. I'm sure I can get consistent results but they might not be a perfect color match to Hinderers.

I didnt say match Hinderers colors I mean from piece to piece and run to run. Its a serious comment I want to know how you do.

I think i may have read it how he did lol. Thanks for stepping in and clarifying. I'm also interested in hearing how he does

If you are unhappy with that standoff, that sounds like it would be worth contacting ZT about. Offer to send them a pic of it, be polite, friendly, and positive about what you like about the knife. Help the CSR have a nicer day, and they'll be even more likely than they already are to help you have a nicer day.

I did, twice. I even waited to post here about it until they had an opportunity to remedy the situation. They chose not to. (Its all in this thread) their response is exactly "they are like that" (scratched up, thin anodizing, and purple and blue hardware mixed together....) I am a very polite person and was extra nice and almost apologetic about having to call them. They have photos and know my disappointment. This is my first time needing their CS and it sucks. Nothing but a one line email response to my issue. I have seen dozens of these go up for sale and not a single one looks like mine, so no they are not just "like that." I could understand slight variation in tone, but this is a completely different color!! The thin and scratched up pivot screw aside..I'm more disappointed in the CS than the knife at this point. I own at least a dozen KAI/ZTs (at least 70% of my collection) and I am questioning my loyalty to them.

I do have a name, but don't see the why I would want to publicize that information. She is probably doing/saying what some one else is telling her to do about this. I don't have a personal issue with the rep.

As excited as I was for this knife I never imagined I would be on the verge of selling all my ZTs and putting my $ else where due to a lack of "give a damn" about my Blem knife I paid full MSRP for...

And by the way, I love the working finish. Its 100% hardware that is the problem with my knife...

And thanks for the offer to Anodize my hardware. At this time I have to decline, I want ZT to make it right some how.

Well if I come across the chance to anodize a set of titanium hardware I will let you know. As of right now the only things I'm planning to anodize are some of my knife scales. A Domino, 0801S110V, Ti Military, and probably my wedding ring. Since they are all very different, and I will be new to it, that wouldn't be a fair example. Should I order some titanium chain mail to show you how it's possible? If you watch some videos on anodizing you might see what I'm talking about. Taking the same exact parts one should be able to reliably replicate the same colors pretty easily. At this point I'm starting to wonder how much you actually know about anodizing titanium. Do you actually know anything about the process? I just can't see why you would think it's so difficult to get consistent results on a batch of the same exact parts. Thats why I thought it was silly when Wobly said it isn't a perfect science. OK maybe less of a science and more of a formula. Sort of like baking. Use the right ingredients and cooking method and you get the expected results. Change something and the results are different. What am I missing? Is there something unexpected that happens in the anodization process that we just can't account for?

Anyway sorry that this thread has been so sidetracked. Maybe the topic of bad anodizing should have had its own thread.

@cyprant, I think you got your posts mixed up, mine was quoting and directed toward jprime84. But while we're at it, go ahead and give them one more try. Third times the charm. Calmly and clearly present your issue again, that you like the knife, but the hardware just isn't right and you wanted to give one more try at getting it sorted out. Who knows, since they've likely gotten more feedback and info by now, maybe they can give you an answer you'll be happier with. I personally think all the CSR people there I've talked to (and all the employees I've talked to at Kai) are top notch!

I'll also add that all the ZT pics of the 0392 show the hardware to be pretty damn bright. I didn't think the hardware had the "working finish" on it as well. I thought just the scales and blade had it. The pics were a little misleading in that regard. I still don't have mine in hand yet and I actually bought a back up off the exchange so hopefully my hardware isn't all scratched up in either one. Actually I don't think I'll be all that picky anyway. I'm just going to use one and get it all scratched up. That doesn't mean someone else can't have a legitimate complaint though.

Really you should try to contact Hinderer since they made the hardware. I wonder if the collab is what's causing the customer service problem. Maybe ZT doesn't want to bug Hinderer about it. Maybe they tried but Rick won't send replacements.

I've also noticed this is more of a "lightswitch" flipper than a push button flipper. I understand the design but it doesn't seem to work the same as a real hinderer

I've never held a Hinderer, but I find my 0392 to flip in a manner similar to my 0801s. That is - it will flip ok with the "light switch" method, but fires much harder with the "push-button" method.

Any of ya got have the 0562 or 0600? Does the flipper of the 0392 have to be used any different than the 0562 or 0600? I'm speaking strictly of how to pull/fire the flipper...I think we ALL know that you can't apply pressure to the lockbar while trying to open the knife without making it much harder on you. Thanks guys!

On another note, I think this knife is going to be an incredible platform for ZT to come out with different blade styles like they talked about in the Blade Show video. I'm looking forward to Rick Hinderer coming out with the different color hardware for the 0392, although the blue probably would have been my first choice anyway.

I have a 0562CF and I can flip the 0392 in the same manner. That is, the "light switch" method works just fine on both for me.

Anyone know of a good quality spanner wrench for the Hinderer pivot "other" than the Hinderer Armorer tool? Nothing wrong with the Armorer tool, it's just that after buying the one for my Striders I realized you "may" end up using it once.

There has to be a good quality spanner wrench on the market for less money...I already went down that road with my Striders. The problem is my Strider spanner (PSD brand?) is that it has a Torx bit sticking out beyond the spanner so it only works on Striders.

I have no intention of adjusting the pivot at this point, but I may need to down the road after its had a chance to break in.

Thanks.

A Hinderer tool is $75 and works great. You're only other option is getting a chain ring spanner wrench and cutting the center tab off.

If I recall, I think a # 12 spanner bit will do the job and you should be able to find one for less than $3. Alternatively, you could grind down the middle of a flathead screwdriver as well. In fact, I know some people have just filed a groove in a penny. In full disclosure, I've never used an actual Hinderer tool (and it likely has better ergonomics) but I have used the #12 spanner (and the penny) with my XM-18.

Regardless, this thread needs more pics! Here is the 0392 next to it's brother.

I understand your upset but this is the check in thread. Lets get back on topic please. Make a feedback thread if they don't help you, but im sure they will. Just be polite

This is pretty handy and works fine for the 0392: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00PF...+Survival+Pocket+Tool+Key+Ring+Opener+(black)

Nice comparison pics. I didn't realize how heavy the stone wash on the Eklipse is until looking at your pics. The 0392 looks almost like bead blasted in comparison.
