Zt 0392 SOUND OFF!

Seriously? I should have researched that Hinderers anodizing may or may not be complete on the hardware and "its just the way they are?" Bizarre to me.

I like the working finish. I don't like the fact that my pivot is scratched up and is lacking a proper finish... Please explain to me why Hinderer hardware is so popular?

I too would be disappointed with the finish. I think the primary issue is that ZT simply dropped those parts in and may, or may not be equipped to fix/ re-anodize them. I think you should use the heck out of the knife and in a few months everything will match. Or you can send it to a knife modifier to fix the color for you.

Regardless of the imperfection, it's too good of a knife to let go. Hell, I'd have a modifier change all the Ti hardware purple and be the first guy with a unique 0392, were I in your shoes.

Maybe it is that way so you will buy the new hinderer hardware when it is available. On the hinderer site it states that the bronze pivot will work for the eclipse.

Can anybody post a photo of a 0392 that has been used

How about a 0392 that's been carried?

In a few months I will repeat these questions and venture a guess the numbers will be the same.

Just think, with the way the secondary market is you can beat one into a coma and still sell it for a profit!!!

who's going to post the first user photo?

I'd recommend you contact ZT warranty again and let them know that you still aren't happy with their answer. They are a very good bunch of people that really want their customers to be happy. It can't hurt to try!

Welcome to the world of Hinderer. I'm surprised that ZT would let a knife go out with parts like that. Not surprised that Hinderer would send them to ZT like that. I'll say again that I agree with you. I'd be annoyed.

I have an anodizer on the way in the mail right now. If you want me to attempt to anodize them for free I will. Can't guarantee the work but I'm pretty sure I can do it fine. I'll test out in a few on my knives first. Hit me up if you are interested.

I've only needed help with one of my 9 ZT's and their guys were super easy to work with and went above and beyond in my situation. Attitude goes a long way with people, I completely understand that you're upset yet if you are a gentleman when you contact them (not saying you weren't) and let them know that you simply need the one screw they well may take care of if for you. Possibly you could contact Mr. Hinderer and request the one blue screw and see if he can help. If all else fails, Mr. Hinderer has relased his Eklipse and may soon have blue hardware available for it, "IF" it fits the 0392 (I'm not sure if it would or not...couldn't hurt to ask). If nothing else works, I'm sure that he'll have the anodized hardware for the ZT 0392 someday very soon.

Good luck! I hope you're able to get your situation taken care of soon and get to lovin' and using that knife.

A very generous offer Al, but that would be a quick way for him to not get the best help from ZT. Also, not to try and derail this thread of happy people that were able to get the 0392, but anodizing isn't a perfect science, from what I understand. I have played with many anodized parts from cars, knives and other items and they aren't all always perfect. I'm also sure that people have bought RHK's working finish items before and been surprised at how "used" they look. Some people (like me) like that finish since it hides wear and is attractive.

Did you happen to get a name from the people you talked to at ZT?

That's what quality control is all about. It's fine if there are some items that don't look right from time to time. Those should end up in the scrap bin though and not on the $375 Limited Edition knives.

Not sure why anodizing wouldn't be an exact science. You take 2 parts of exactly the same elements or compounds with the same weight and shape. Put them in the same solution with the same voltage for the same amount of time. I would expect the results to be the same. I have only done heat anodizing so I can't say I know first hand but I would think Hinderer would have it down to a science by now.

I think if you have the equipment coming you are in for a surprise. Please come back and tell us how easy it is to match colors.

This knife has grown on me even more. I can't seem to understand why everyone is dumping them other than to make a quick buck, easily my favorite production knife I've ever had. I'll even say it is better than some customs that I have had. At first it was not even on my radar and I didn't care for the look of the knife...............things have changed for me!

Well everyone has their own opinion. I did not buy mine with the intention of flipping it. I really like my 0562CF and 0620CF. The 0562CF is an awesome knife and like it more than the 0392. The 0392 just would not get pocket time so I let it go.

Thanks for commenting.

My only small complaint is one of the faces of the standoff screws is unevenly ground around the edges so its not quite circular. The annodizing looks fine, but it suprised me after hearing about all the precision machinery that went into Hinderer parts. I still love the knife, and its only a very minor cosmetic complaint.

If you are unhappy with that standoff, that sounds like it would be worth contacting ZT about. Offer to send them a pic of it, be polite, friendly, and positive about what you like about the knife. Help the CSR have a nicer day, and they'll be even more likely than they already are to help you have a nicer day.

Even if I switch it to my left hand to make certain that there is no pressure on the lockbar, its just very, very strong but I shall get it worked out. With my right hand I'm making sure that the only pressure on the lockbar side is being applied to the side of the clip pushing up not in, if that makes any sense...I'm not pressing on the lockbar. <grin> After having a Benchmade Skirmish open in my pocket and cut me pretty bad I've learned to appreciate the stronger detent. I'll get it figured it, I only own about 11 or 12 flippers. This knife now has me looking down my nose at every $400 folder I own and certainly raises the bar as to what a $400 folder can be.

I've also noticed this is more of a "lightswitch" flipper than a push button flipper. I understand the design but it doesn't seem to work the same as a real hinderer

I never said that I could replicate the exact color. I said it shouldn't be hard for someone like Rick Hinderer to get consistent results. I'm sure I can get consistent results but they might not be a perfect color match to Hinderers.

Do you suppose the Hinderer custom version works differently?
