Zt 0452cf

Haven't purchased a "new to me" production knife in a loooong time (I did finally replace a Para2 I sold a while back and missed, and finally picked up a ZDP-189 Delica), but the ZT0560BW and this 0452CF are just too damn sexy to pass up. I thought I was going to get the 0560 first since I've been in love with the XM-18 from back when I first joined the forum, but this 0452CF has been gnawing at me steadily. So, I just ordered one from KershawGuy :), hope it proves to be as awesome as it seems to be.

I wish a G10 version was made with S35VN to keep to similar price-point. Never used a CF scaled knife before so I hope I don't find it too slippery. Has that been a problem for anyone?

You will LOVE it !!!

The CF feels good and grip is excellent. It's a beauty of a knife! Congrats!

Got mine in today. A lot better than the Lemon I got from the first batch. Detent is perfect. No imperfections in the CF. solid lockup.

Got mine in (thanks KershawGuy!), it's a GORGEOUS knife:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:. Very very stiff detent though, and I can see/feel a little burr in the detent ball hole. I'm going to try and just keep flipping and hope the S35VN won't take too long to smooth out at the hole. Otherwise I'm going to try manually smoothing it out. Mine is definitely sensitive to pressure on the lockbar -- if you sqeeze the lockbar at all before attempting to open, you can see it press against the blade more and therefore more fully engage the ball. Then it just won't open with reasonable finger pressure. If you pry the lock bar away from the blade with a fingernail just slightly, it flips more easily.

ETA: It looks like gripping at the lockbar cutout is key, at least in this initial break-in period. Much of this learning curve for me is simply not having owned a framelock before, didn't realize I had to be so conscious about technique....

From what I've seen and heard these are hit and miss. If in doubt send it in. my new one functions perfectly.

I'll give it a little bit first. Will just see if it breaks in -- just got my new toy, don't want to give it up yet :D

I was planning on getting one of these and, now, I'm not sure how to feel about it. I was looking forward to getting one based on the 4.1" length, the M390 steel, and the CF scale.

On one hand, it was suppose to be a regular production but it seemed like it was for an introductory period and now they've run out of stock. So on that respect I'm disappointed.

On the other hand, I've heard more than the usual number of issues with the design such as the blade point rising above the scales and cutting some people.

And maybe the lack of inventory and the issues with the knife have something to do with each other. I certainly hope ZT fix any design or tooling issues with it and start up production again.

It's S35VN, not M390, but it's still a fantastico knife and you should pick one up first chance you get. If the one you get isn't to your liking, you can always send it in, but I think it's too nice a knife to pass up. Carrying mine today.

Mine is nearly broken in now, nearly 24h later. Not taking as long as I thought it would. It was tough going at first, but already much better. I flipped the knife against a mousepad on a table a bunch of times, just to crack the detent more easily without killing my finger. Then I left it partially open overnight thinking perhaps it would ease lock spring tension more naturally, "relax" the Ti lock a bit. Also a bit more conscious of not squeezing lockbar while trying to open, but that seems to be less of an issue now.

Loving this knife a whole lot, worth every penny spent as far as I can tell with only one day of use. It's a completely different animal from the chunky ZT0200 I had. I love the new direction ZT is taking, and I'm looking forward to picking up a 0450 once I can get a G10 or CF scale.

I received one from kershawguy this week. Mine was flawless in every way; absolutely perfect out of the box. I love it! I am overly critical of everything and rarely ever happy with a purchase. This and my 0770cf have been an exception to that.

It took a few minutes to figure out where to place my fingers to not put pressure on the lockbar, but after that, the blade was flying out as smooth as I could hope for.

These two ZT purchases (my only two ZT purchases) have really made me happy about buying knives again. Now I think I'll pick up that 0562cf I've been lusting after!

Thanks for the endorsement. I didn't say I've completely wrote it off. Matter of fact, sent an inquiry to a dealer that posted on this thread. I think I got the M390 from the original industry conference video (was it SHOT or BLADE?).

Just picked mine up today at my local knife shop. So far I love it, but I'm obviously still in the honeymoon phase.

Here it is, and with my son's new CQC-2K for size comparison (and because he wanted me to put a pic of his new knife in with mine:)).

As you can see, I got a nice low serial number (lucky number 13! Score! LOL).

It gets easier after breaking-in even if you have fingers more on the lockbar. I had to hold it in a constrained "just so" manner which felt a little awkward at first, but now my finger placement doesn't have to be as precise and accurate and the knife still rockets out. ZT wasn't kidding when they said a little break-in is required. At least for those of us who got ones without perfect detents out of the box.

Been carrying it all day, just superb. My second ZT ever and I'm glad it's proven to be vastly different from my first experience, the 0200. Now I'm looking at some others a little more seriously: 0808, 0562CF, etc.

First thing I did when I got my 0452cf is order one of Max's (Gnoleb) clips. He's going to start advertising that these fit this model as well the 0770 and the 0801. The knife is fantastic with that one glaring exception. What an afterthought. I'm not sure what they were thinking! Both the LE model and the Russian exclusive model had clips that were much better designed. Maybe they were going for more left/right versatility? Whatever the case, that thing is going in the drawer never to be seen again as soon as my replacement gets here.

There's a nice video on YouTube of the replacement clip from Gnoleb on the 0452cf if you want to search for it. I'd link it up but I'm at work and little lazy right now.:o

That's my video. I can't link it at work but if you click on the link in my sig you can find it. It's one of the most recent videos. I'm carrying my 452cf today. Love how well it carries for such a big knife!
