I know what you're saying about how its rough where the lock bar rubs the blade tang once it gets past the detent ball. Mines real rough...

I pulled mine apart and sort of polished an obvious burr on the edge of the lock face. Mine is much smoother now although still not like my 801. I do feel it will actually break in now without marring the blade.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try this tomorrow.

Mine is perfect. This flips better than my 0801cf, its an absolute dream to flip. The flipper tang is a little short and usually when I close my flippers the tang will catch on my thumb and not swing shut, but because this one is so short it didn't catch on my thumb and it cut me! haha oh well. It really is a fantastic knife though.

The roughness you're feeling might actually be the titanium lip around the steel insert. If you look closely by your flipper tab, you'll see scratches where the blade meets the titanium lip. That's what was happening on mine.

I just put a little crk grease on the face to smooth it out. Mine had the burr you mentioned too, but that alone wasn't the cause of the roughness.

My detent is pretty stout as well. I prefer this though, as it may be a pain now, but it will break in to perfection. I noticed when I first got it that if I pushed the lock bar in when closed, it basically locked the knife, crazy detent strength (there was a post about this on another knife recently). It still does it, but after breaking in some it is more manageable.

You're correct on that. However initially, the rubbing/grinding was much worse but lessened after polishing off the burr on the lock face. Now that is gone, the ti lip around the insert is wearing. I'm ok with that, but the nasty burr had to go. Maybe mine was worse than yours, who knows.

Very glad to read your evaluation of the flipping action on the 0452cf. I should have mine tomorrow and was wondering about that exact thing. The detent on my 0454 is quite strong too. Some folks seem to love that. But that and with no jimping on the flipper tab, that's my only real complaint about the 0454...so I was hoping the 0452cf wouldn't have that same issue. Thx flarp.

The action on mine is great. The detent is not quite as strong as my 0454, but it is still firm. The jimping on the flipper does make it easier to get a good catch on it, so in that sense, it is a little easier to open. It carries comfortably and discretely on account of its thin, narrow profile and deep carry clip. It uses the same style clip as found on the 0770 (among others). The hole spacing can accommodate the larger one (like on the 0801), but the clip might actually end up in the lockbar cutout. I haven't tried on mine yet.

I've taken to flipping it with my thumb until it breaks in better. Awesome knife, but probably the most stubborn flipper I've owned >_<

Anybody mind taking and posting a few pics of what you did to yours to improve the detent? Cuz mine's pretty serious. Almost considering sending it back to KAI to heave them tune it, but I'll do it myself if someone can post some pics...

With a dremel, you could carefully make a "ramp" that the detent ball will over come easier. Or perhaps flatten the detent ball a tiny bit by carefully sanding it little-by-little.

I could be wrong, but I don't really think there is a way to adjust the action of the detent without drastic modifications.

You could lessen the pressure from the lockbar, but then you'll still have a deep detent to over come.

Personally, I would send it to KAI, I wouldn't feel comfortable trying to adjust my detent. But that's me. I actually like using my thumb to open mine. For my hands, I can adjust to a useable grip faster this way.

I think they will break in naturally. Just a matter of "breaking" the edge of the detent hole (like BB posed you do in an expedited manner). Mine has already broken in a lot. When I first got it my finger slipping off the flipper from the detent happened pretty frequently, now she pops open everytime. Flip away, friend!

I'm not sure if mine is getting easier to flip because it's "breaking in", or if my flipper finger is just getting stronger lol. By comparison, it still feels twice as strong as any detent in my flipper lineup.

All the guys at work were drooling over this blade although none of them have ponied up for anything nicer than a Gerber or a cheaper Spyderco. The detent on my Socom Delta makes this 0452 seem like nothing. Kinda glad this blade doesn't come out so easy as flipping it is quite a treat.

I swear mine is harder than yalls.
I think it's also a matter of the slim handle profile causing me to put pressure on the lock bar when I grip it.
Is Sinkevich a lefty?? Cuz this thing flips open beautifully with my left hand...

I'll keep breaking it it, but as of right now, my right index finger tip is protesting loudly!

I had a spare 801 clip laying around so I threw it on mine... I like it a whole lot better.
