Zt 0452cf

Just received my 0452, the detent is overkill, seems to me there is a problem. The knife should not be this tough to flip open. At this rate I'm going to have sore fingers and arthritis in no time. ZT lets me down once again...

Dont know why you keep buying ZT's all you do is bitch about them I think you should sell it and move on

I put my leather work gloves on and broke it in, very nice now. I thought the 0452 would be a little to big so I planned on getting the 0450 too, but now I'll just stay with my 0452.

If you loosen the pivot, you can get it to deploy easier on one side at least. If you try for both, there will be a slight amount of blade play. Total crap.

LOL, so wait. The knife is total crap because you dont have the strength to open the knife? The 0452cf is designed to have a strong detent. And loosening the pivot to ease flipping is not a good idea. And a knife isnt crap because you practice bad ideas.

What would he do for entertainment?

still all this fuss about the detent...sad so much focus is placed on one aspect a few people find to be a dealbreaker.

On another note, im loving mine so far....though have been paranoid about messing up that beautiful satin finish......so I switched things up. Did an acid stonewash and put a satin on the flats. This should make for a great working finish and still keep that sexy two tone look.

what do you guys plan on doing to yours??

Very nice! you got a pic of it fully open? Mine I will probably keep stock until I screw it up enough to where it justifies a refin. Yours looks great though. Id love to see it fully open.

^ Sweet!
I don't plan on doing much to mine. Maybe red hardware

These knives (0452, 0450 specifically) are a lot thinner and have stronger detents than what we're used to seeing from ZT. My guess is a lot of people are riding the lockbar. I know on the 0900 and 0801s110v, if I ride the lockbar at all, it cannot open.

In reference to the 5lbs of force pictures, it takes roughly 12 pounds of force to open a soda can.

Just received mine and I like everything about it even the serial number 0888. Has anyone tried an aftermarket Ti standoff to see if it fits?

It looks like the stiff detent is breaking in some, so perhaps there isn't anything wrong with the tension of the lock bar. Still not even remotely comfortable with the amount of pressure required and sharp jimping. But yeah, I have purchased many different knives with zero issues. Everytime it's a ZT, there's some kind of quirk.

maybe the Quirk is you......... just saying??

Yeah, the heavy detent requiring 20lbs of force to break is all in my head. Get real. This is without any pressure to the lockbar.

I will say to those that are dealing with horrible deployment; keep at it...it gets better. Just a break in period is what I'm discovering.

Just waiting for the video where you show us how hard the detent is and your fingers are clearly riding the lock bar and you flat out deny it.

Have you tried flipping it with your left hand?

I received a 0452CF today. Awesome knife in most respects. But the knife cut me pretty good when it was closed. The blade is just a shade too long for the scales, and if you extrude any manflesh between the scales near the tip of the blade, it will cut you with no prob. I was sliced - quite easily - by just reaching down to extract the knife from my pocket.

This is a design flaw.

I considered returning it. But this is an otherwise mighty sweet knife, so I'm going to send it off somewhere to get it slightly reprofiled to shorten the blade just a shade. And maybe cerakote the blade. Who knows. That will do the trick.

I would let ZT know and see if they would re profile it.

Everyone has their preference, and some designs are more touchy about any pressure on the lockbar while trying to open them. My 0801s110v was ridiculously stiff, and this 0452 was not as bad, but worse than my 0562 which is perfect for me and I prefer a stiff detent.

One thing I noticed is my 0801s110v, 0562, and this 0452 have holes much larger than the detent ball itself and it appears it drops in fully so that the lockbar is resting on the blade when closed. Other's like the, 0560, 0550, 0620 only engage a much smaller hole and stop well before the lockbar would rest on the blade as is more typically seen across various brands. A side effect of that is because the ball sits much deeper into the hole the initial break free angle between the ball and edge of the detent hole is much steeper. With a very wear resistant blade like S110v that detent hole edge won't smooth out much. On both my 0801s110v and 0452 I used a cone polishing bit on a dremel to JUST break that sharp edge and it made night and day difference that even a couple weeks of trying to break it in manually would not do with the 0801. I could have sent it in but I prefer to adjust them exactly how I want them anyway. Both of those knives now open perfectly and feel identical with either hand. Enough blade retention that you can't shake the blade out, strong lockbar tension, and still fire like a rocket.

Even if I'm (heaven forbid!) actually touching the handle of the knife while opening it! If you have to push in while pulling up to get your front door to unlock/lock, the problem isn't poor technique it's a poorly fit door/lock.

Once it's dull I'm also going to be taking a bit off the tip with a re-profile a 1/16" would probably be more than enough. Perhaps they vary but I'd bet mine is less than a 1/16" recessed from the handle.

Just to clarify about my 0452CF, the closed blade does not extend past the end of the scales, but is so close to the end that it can easily - and accidentally - be touched.
