Not yet but it's only 9:30am on the west coast so still might be a few hours till ZT processes all that.

I didn't order mine until around 8:45:eek:

I was forcing a patina and totally forgot the release was at 8:00 (central time), so when I got on the site it was like 8:30 and it was crashed. Eventually I ordered one around 8:45, and now my order status says "shipping soon"...

We'll see...

So to those of you who purchased, was this new direct sales method a success or not? Did it make it easier to purchase or harder? Or, is it too early to tell?

I think it's too early to tell

If you do have one stuck in "authorizing payment", you could try giving your credit card company a call. It could be that transaction got flagged, and a simple call could clear it.

I've had transactions stuck in "pending" and "authorizing payment" before... not from this specific purchase, but others I've made before (both online and in brick & mortar stores). Typically it is for large transactions that are out of profile from your normal spending habits. They sometimes get flagged by the credit card companies as potential fraud, and they'll hold the transaction until it is verified. In the past, when it has happened to me, sometimes I've gotten a phone call from the CC company asking to validate the charge. For some online orders, I had to call them to get it resolved. In some cases, the online retailer gave a "payment failed" error right away, but I've also had them stuck in a pending state as well.

Defiantly too early to tell. I feel it went as well as could be reasonably expected. Tentatively I think it was a small success with hopefully enough lessons gained to smooth the process out even more for the Ruby and 0392.

I agree, however it's nice not having to deal with preorders. I hate waiting a year or more for a knife, I've been waiting for the 0562cf since February!

Didn't BHQ have preorders for the 0454? They still have a listing on their site stating "coming soon" for it.
Talk about "late to the party"...

I'm still waiting on my 620cf from Blade Hq pre-ordered in January. I cancelled my 562cf pre order after finding one on the exchange NIB for a lot less money! I'm done with pre-orders. I think this method ZT is doing is a great way to handle limited edition knives.

I have some bad news for you then. You are still going to have to wait months or even a year or more for a knife to come out. The only difference here is that the actual purchase is available through a single source. Nothing to do with wait times. Some stores make it a habit to try and jump on the bandwagon and offer certain things and take preorders on stuff that has not even been made available yet. It's happened with more than one shop. Not sure why that is, but it seems to frustrate folks more often than not.

My status just changed to shipping soon. I called KAI earlier today and the receptionist knew what I was talking about so I'm sure they are getting a bunch of calls about this.

I guess that's true, I just like this approach better than the anticipation of a preorder. I feel like its been ages since I preordered my 0562, while the 0454 seemingly popped up out of nowhere. I guess that's because I didn't preorder it :)

I think it went great for most of us. It took me clicking add to cart 1000x but I finally got one. This system is a lot better than the old one where dealers could pick and choose their friends to get these. To me it is a way fairer playing field for most of us. Before last night, I never got any of the LEs.

Now an official post from ZT confirming they were all sold in 4 minutes, and a lot of confusion in the comments. My order hasn't been canceled, still says "Shipping Soon".

Still not holding my breath.

When are you going to do a video of the 562cf

I don't understand what you mean.

My payment gave a message that it was not processing, so I called and said I was having issues getting it to complete. The person on the phone took my CC info verbally and ran it to get it to complete.

Anyone else get slapped with sales tax? I'm in California. I called Shopatron and they said that KAI has a physical facility in California and as such orders shipped to California should be charged sales tax.
