How is it bashing to just state plainly what happened? They dropped the ball, end of story. That isn't bashing, that's reality. Frankly I think the blame lies more in Shopatron's lap than Kai's anyway.
 
So, you are pretty much guaranteed your pick of the ruby or 0392? Sounds like a win to me. Are you on the list for them then?
 
Actually, while I'll be probably pretty butthurt if my order doesn't go through (I completed a single order, at 6:02:40, with confirmation email) I still have to give the folks at Kai credit for doing this.

Issues with the ordering system aside, kudos to them for selling LE knives direct like this so that everyone has a chance to get one. Not a guarantee to get one, but at least a chance.

I couldn't care less about the Ugly, I mean Ruby, but I'll definitely take them up on the 0392. I just hope it's guaranteed and not "oops, you didn't reply to the email within 2 seconds, so sad" like it's been so far. I've signed up to every list I could find on there and I still never got any email about the 0454 release.

Excellent idea in light of how previous LEs have gone for ZT, for sure, just horrible execution. As I've said before, this kind of stuff is exactly why TAD Gear went to a lottery system, because then everyone who signs up actually has an equal chance and they aren't sold out in 4 minutes to those with a fast browser, no lives, and a cheeto-stained itchy F5 finger who are just going to resell them for a significant profit on eBay. (no offence to those of you fine gentlemen who actually got them, but you know I just described a lot of the purchasers ;) ).
 
I got an email early this AM from Shopatron that said my order was not complete and to sign in.After I signed in they said that I had an invalid shipping address.Huh?I thought something was funny because I have lived in my house for over 20 years and received a confirmation email for my one knife.I Signed in and proceeded to try to update my address just to double check that I had not typo'ed my information.The only Country that I could enter was Canada and not the USA.I proceeded to jump on the phone to Shopatron and talked to a nice Brit who said everything was good to go and disregard the email.I then proceeded to call KAI for good sake and talked to a nice lady who was handling this 0454 issues.She verified that my information was correct and confirmed my order was good to go.Later in the day I was brainstorming why I got the email and what could have caused the glitch.I remembered when I first added the knife to the cart that I was confused and did not know wither I hit the KAI-USA(USD) or the KAI Canada(CA Dollars) gray and white icon before adding the knife to the cart.I did not know if white or gray was for USD??I cant remember if I hit the white or gray button the fist time and realized that the price was $575 when I went to check out.I then went back to the 0454 page and hit the opposite button which turned out to be USD and added it to the cart for $500 and proceed to check out and complete the transaction.I received a confirmation email after for the $510 including shipping.The only thing that I could think of is that the Canadian dollar knife remained in my cart and an automated email was sent to remind me that I still had item in the cart and they were reminding me that If I wanted it then I still needed to check out.

I hope my insight and experience helps KAI make the process smoother next round and helps the members on this board if they received a similar email.
It seems the CAD/USD (your location) choice may cause some glitches along with generated automated emails from Shopatron if an item if left in your cart .An improvement would be to ask the person to select a Country before entering the KAI web site.This may keep some from adding purchases to their cart and then not being able to check out because they are shipping or billing it to a Country in which they do not reside, therefore the item stays in the cart and the checkout process can't be completed. This may have been one of many contributing reasons that some knives remained in non-purchasers carts for up to 15 minutes.

Exactly.. Not a guarantee but a chance. I like the system, and it can be improved.. But this was their first time doing this, and it should be improved for the next Limited..

Lost Cosmonaut : That's great new's that you are guaranteed the 0392.. That's a beauty...

All in all.. It went pretty good for the first time, and it will be improved..
All of us now have a chance to get these awesome limited edition knives at msrp cost, not double scalper cost.

If you can't wait a day or two to get $500 back in your account you might evaluate the choice of buying $500 knives.

Just sayin.

That email was signed by Thomas. If he tells you you're guaranteed a knife, you will get the knife. He doesn't play around.

As for some of your words:

You say they admitted to a ton of issues. No, there was one issue.

You say this was horribly executed. Not really, no. You have a fairly unique issue, and those with any issue are in the minority. From what I'm reading, a significant minority. Your personal affront doesn't change reality. So to say this was a horrible execution is simply not true.



I like how a few fanboys and a few individuals receiving 1 (or 2) are defending the big company who dropped the ball instead of an individual in our community who is understandably upset. I'm in the same boat and I've got your back Lost Cosmo!

Not cool, if I was about to sell $130k in products I would sure have a plan to execute this, and a solid contingency plan if it failed...is this the first time they have sold something? Oh, I forgot... their company sells millions of dollars in product every year!

They did have a plan, and it worked for the majority of customers. They also have a contingency plan. They're acting on it.

On a separate note, regarding the 'community' comment. It was the community that sat with a 0454 in their cart, while people thought they were sold out. Those 60+ people who cause the stock to reappear, then disappear. Glitches aside, that was unhelpful traffic and resource hogging. What was the purpose? Beats me, go ask the community I should be defending. *rolls eyes*
 
your problem is that you don't have a 0454.

I don't know why, but that seriously made me lol :D
I think they could have worded that better

I'm not sure when some of you guys placed your orders, but I placed mine around 8:45 central time and I got the "shipping tomorrow" email today. That would be pretty sh***y if people that ordered before me got cancelled.
 
Order canceled. O well. Guess I'll buy something else with the money i "saved" :D

And they were nice enough to extend this offer and still complaints...
 
People who want a lottery and resort to insulting people who did manage to score one are jealous they didnt get one. Heck I had to sneak away from work for 5 minutes to order one off my cell phone! The first come first serve is just as fair as a lottery as flippers will enter in and have equal chance also. There were even flippers at the Emerson lottery at Blade show. This is a capitalistic society people who show up first with cash in hand generally get what they want just saying.
 
How about we do this, enough whining, entitlement, and complaining already. This crap happens far too often, no one was promised a rose garden, in this case a 0454. This is far from a life or death situation, no animals were harmed by the new process, no one got killed, and no one went missing. Kudos to those that scored, and better luck next time to those that didn't. These little rants and complaints get old fast and are quite childish to boot.

If anyone has any legitimate questions or comments regarding their status, wants to share in their excitement of the product, or whatever else please continue posting. If folks only feel compelled to complain, please don't we don't need anymore negativity here. As a member, I get so sick and tired of the whining, and I think 98% of the other folks do too.
 
I got this email just a few minutes ago.... no offer to get another knife! The knife was in my cart only 3-4 minutes! :(

So let's see, whiner, crybaby, complainer, childish, entitled... Whatever, guys. Have fun high-fiving yourselves in your victory, I'm out of here. Forgive me for feeling a little bit "entitled" when I throw down $500 on something that a website was more than happy to take my money for that I'll never see because they admit themselves they had major issues with their system.
 
Still no email for me one way or another. Order placed at 8:05, status is shipping soon and CC pending. Im crossing my fingers!

Looks like this was a bit of an ordeal for some, hopefully it's better executed for the 0392.

This was there 1st time dealing with a sale like this and I think they did OK. Retail sales and Distributor sales are two totally different beasts.. I got no skin in the game so it's just my 2 cents.
 
I'm not bashing anyone. I'm just being honest about the fact that their ordering process sucked and they had a ton of issues. THEY HAVE ADMITTED THIS THEMSELVES, I'm not just some crackpot bitching and moaning because I didn't get a knife (even though I paid for one).

This is the letter I got:

I understand your disappointment, and I see that Mr. Welk has bent over backwards to try to make it up to you.

I do want to remind you that earlier in this thread you assert that you used paypal with your credit card.

That does not mean that you took any hard earned dollars from your savings or checking account and now do not have access to those dollars.

What that means is that you have an outstanding balance which you have not paid and will not have to pay for 30 days (give or take).

ZT has said that they will credit this amount back to your outstanding balance, so you are not out anything and "the kids still eat".

Again - I understand the disappointment in not getting a 454, but now you are assured by the man himself of getting a 392, and none of the rest of us have that assurance at all.

I hope you at least take advantage of Mr. Welk's very generous offer for what promises to be a very highly sought after future LE.

I guess some people just cannot be reasoned with, no matter what or how you say it they always find fault in it. Go figure.
