FINAL WORD ON THE 0560CBCF, GOT THE EMAIL LAST NIGHT THROUGH MY DEALER.

-----------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for contacting us directly in regards to the status of our 0560CBCF. Please see below for statement released by our director of sales as of yesterday.

When we opt to do boutique runs, we put out a "target number" of which we hope to produce to. It assists with our Sales Dept. when selling to our dealer base. The target number is just that, a target. Think of it as a window. We do not go out to produce to that exact target amount. Of all the boutique runs we have produced, never have we hit the target number exactly to the announced product run size. Production has a large role in how many of a specific product are actually manufactured. There can be fall out, complications, and knives can even be scrapped on more challenging projects. In these cases, the number of knives produced can fall short, and even significantly short of the intended target. The opposite is additionally true. There can be less fall out (fingers crossed), and projects come together as intended.

It's just impossible to work to exact target numbers. The reality of production is that the actual number will fall to wherever it falls. Shortages bring on frustrations from the dealers, as there wasn't enough to go around. Overages are usually embraced by the dealers, as there are more than enough to satisfy. In the case of the 0560CBCF, there was an overage of a few hundred pieces. We feel the piece is still quite limited and well within the target window. Collectors and users alike should enjoy it very much. Whichever the case, sorry if there was confusion. We certainly wish limited edition manufacturing could be more exact, but it doesn't always work that way. As to the final production total for the 0560CBCF, we are not yet finished with all the work, so there is no total available. I would estimate between 1200-1400 total when finished.

Best regards,

Linda Reed

honestly that statement shouldnt be news to anyone. I have NEVER in my life heard KAI make guarantees in regards to production dates nor about production numbers. In fact in most of the cases they stress that these numbers in both situations are estimates and estimates are just that, an estimate. And as my cable bill has shown me estimates can change dramatically. IMHO knives in general make for pretty poor investments in general especially production knives. But even if that is your deal its not like the CBCF was made in the multiples of thousands nor was it made in a batch of dozens. So whether its a few hundred over or not I dont think is going to have much effect on the value. Maybe they should just not serialize them or make every single knife a 1 of XXXX. Then they could tell everyone how many there will be an no one will really have a way to check otherwise. But I could see some complaining happening then too. And if there is one thing Im sure of is that KAI would LOVE to find a way to eliminate complaining. Especially when most of it seems to be very very trivial.

You're only a day late and a thread short congrats. :applouse:

Well, a few of these "Gold Members", kept telling me it was 950 or even less. Never know the facts, till you find the source. Its like that damn broken telephone game... Now I do in fact know. And I do like to know what I pay for, to the stainless screw it was fastened with.

What's so bad about Gold Members?

They kept telling you that because it was the last official word they had. Good job on being profound though, you deserve some applause for your sleuthing. Seriously, I'm in awe that after bitching pointlessly about serial numbers, your big move labelled "find the source" is an email to Kai.

You aren't paying for a definite fraction of a set of knives. You're paying for the knife, the one you bought as far as the price is concerned through the manufacturer and the dealer. Those screws are accounted for in the price, yes, but the production number is not. A Tilt cost what it cost despite there only being a few hundred.

I have a blue G10, stonewashed Skyline. There were 64 made. It cost $40. The price is not reflected as a fraction of the run, so it's not thereby determined.

Trust me, you're not blowing any whistles or breaking new ground.

I'm one of the Gold Members who said the numbers were in the 900 range. I said that because that was the last official word. Obviously I was incorrect, because more up to date information has since surfaced. So now that's what I'll go with.

And I was the gold member who introduced the 900 number. Reason behind me saying that? Because that was the official word I got.
Now stop the whining and enjoy the knife.

Nothing. lol. Just people who kept saying I was crazy to ask and bring this all up happened to all be gold members. Your good, nothing wrong. :)
I know I'm good as I didn't bring up any production numbers. You made it seem like because the production numbers just so happened to be brought up by Gold Members, that they were somehow "worse" than say a Basic Member.

Wow, I just stumbled onto this train-wreck.
I can't even comprehend why someone would be upset if they made more than they said they would. Then again I don't know why anyone would want more than one. :p
You want them to be hard to find.... wait a while.

No no. Didn't mean that in any way like that. Just thought there was more concrete information from them (experienced guys) on this topic than was discussed.

Understandable. Being a Gold Member doesn't necessarily mean more experienced though.

Does anyone think Kershaw / ZT resets the laser engraver when a knife is kicked out due to QC issues?

If so, you should reevaluate your thought process...

I should have used the ora of Gold Membership to look into the minds of Jimmer and get the most currently, UNRELEASED numbers to share with you. That way we could settle you down because your questions are so "crazy"

Iam glad they dont mark-em like other companys do .......... 9 of 500
It would be funny to see a knife marked 1123 of 1000 .............LOL
