And I have to assume that if China can build quantum computers, and they can, that they can build high tolerance knives, too. If the demand is there. And the demand WILL be there if the market prices are low enough. Doesn't matter if any of us think it's right or wrong.

They would have to want to..... And get advanced enough to do it.

They don't currently have that capability, or even the people that could do it.... Would be a monster investment to say the least.

Even if it happens those knives won't be that much cheaper than CRK..... Maybe shave $100 off of one..... And that is a maybe.... ;)

Some strong opinions. And I respect them all, as long as you can respect mine.

Looking forward to the big test.

I've got to bookmark this thread for future quotes. Some of them are priceless. [emoji23] But that's just my "opinion". [emoji12]

Between all of the ridiculous "opinions" in this discussion, I think I missed how this counterfeit knife was actually going to be tested. Will a known legitimate sample be purchased directly from CRK or authorized dealer, to compare side by side in some deliberate fashion? Or was this just the op letting us know that he bought a fake and planned on just carrying and using it for a while?

When something non-clothing or textile related is made without love, it usually shows.

They have CAD and make high-end plastic miniature models, and even with plastic moulded items you can tell that 99% of the time their stuff has no soul in it, inaccurate shapes/detail and whatnot, unless all the preparation/research work was done by a Westerner (or helped by the Japanese/Koreans, which could be why a few of their earlier plastic kits were not bad)...

In the case of knives it is more dicey, as with CNC machines many of the visible aspects can be rounded off. Rap a fixed blade's spine on a brick though, and the corner cutting might show...

What I found to be an obvious area of corner cutting is the edge bevel: I wonder if the CRK clones have the same edge thickness behind the shoulders, or the same bevel angle...: That doesn't require testing to find out...

The Chinese can't make things with soul? Is that what you are saying? Really?

Again with the girly thumbs?
Seems to be a favourite phrase of yours...

The "wimpy knife" split the stick to cook the steaks that are cooking here while my dad cooks a sausage:

We brought a couple of Cold Steel knives...which didn't get used at all. ;)

But this wasn't a Cold Steel thread in the beginning anyway...

Dad in middle picture ... Look at that dumbass hacking at a branch with a pocket knife with a perfect tly good axe right here...:D :D

You: I swear Dad I got this check it out almost there ....

Dad: Shut up and get me a beer before I burn my weiner waiting on you to hack girly thumb off...

:D :D had to buddy it spoke to me....

Why do we need to quote these awesome pictures? It is just making it inevitable that a ZT axe will be mine. Damn it!

Crap, you would bring that up. I had the chance to pick up a zt0102 for a bargain price, and passed it up because of other commitments. Now I kick myself every time I see one. I have the 0180, and I think the two would make such perfect companions.

Plausible dialogue. :D

Do it, do it, do it! ;)

Now you get to embark on the great Grail hunt to acquire one though. :)
Yay!

I just removed 2 posts from this thread for political content. That is only allowed in the Political Arena, which requires a paid membership. Legal questions on counterfeit products or imports, and the technology of other countries, are on topic for this discussion. Political ranting and vulgarity are not.

Whoops, stepped out of line. My bad guys. Seems to always happen to someone when talking about counterfeits because trade laws are tied so closely to politics.

Well most of the whole counterfeit thing really goes to political.

It's hard to talk about the subject and not get into politics, walking that line can be difficult.

The bottom line IMO is this:

As long as there is a market for them they will continue to be made.

There seems to be a lot of unsavory people in this world that will find ways to separate people from their money.

Personally I blame the people who are buying these things and the companies who are selling them, one is just as bad as the other in a number of ways.

Can't really blame the factory, they are making what they are commissioned to make. ;)

Agreed although I blame the person who sits down and makes a conscious decision to hire a factory to make something based on someone else's design more than anyone else. If someone only has $500 and they really want to know if the basic design would work for then so they buy a $30 clone, I really can't find myself getting that upset. It's like a test drive of sorts. The problem is what they could be tempted to do with the clone once they decide they no longer want it. Let's be real, no one outside of CRK would care all THAT much if there was a big "CLONE" stamped into the blade and handle. People care because it's so confusingly similar and other people get duped because of it.

I don't personally see any justification for buying a clone.

Don't care how it's spun, I don't get upset about it either if they do buy one.

There will always be those type of people who will gather around the knife table at the local flea market and the like sites on the internet.

Well people will buy what they will buy for a variety of reasons, not my business so I stay out of it.

Looking at my Seb 25 while typing this and that is sitting next to my Military and Spyderco K2.

I'm not down for cheap slag metal and bad heat treats. You can see the blade has less machining on it than a real one. All this thread will do, if the testing shows positive results, is support stealing intellectual property and harm CRK. This topic should be closed.

Agreed.

This kinda thing makes me sick to my ass. Somebody came into the knife shop where I work a few weeks ago with a bunch of fakes he bought online so he could practice anodizing and pimping. Made me feel dirty just touching them.

That was your perfect opportunity to sell him a bunch of legit knives that he could practice on.
I'd assume a $500 price tag for a "guinea pig" would give a lot of people the willies.
