Here are some ideas:

I really like the stacked letters with the arrow:thumbup:, I think that would look great on the long bolster. Should allow the letters to be a little fuller too.
And I will probably be talked into D2:rolleyes:
The big reason I would prefer ATS-34 is for $7.50 more we would basically have a custom "File & Wire" knife, vs a Custom standard Queen. Not there is anything wrong with that, I love my Amber Bone Queen Trapper in D2.

I'm glad I don't have to keep up with all this. Thanks for the hard work and patience guys!

I know I've been a bit outspoken on this one, but no matter what I'm in.

That being said...

I'd prefer ATS-34 over D2, mainly for my shortcomings in the sharpening department, but either one is okay.

I'm usually a bone person, but if the stag is donated by a member, how cool is that? It adds a real personal touch to the knife - much thanks anonynous member!

Shield on a Barlow? Who needs it! It's already got that lovely huge bolster. No need for more metal to hide the handle material.

When everyone started saying clip blade, it turned me off, but the long pull makes it much more attractive. I'm more of a spear point kinda guy, but I think the clip'll work better with the wharnie.

I like the "vertical" BFC arrow as opposed to the horizontal, but either of those arrows'll look sharp. If we can get the right # of people, I'd be all for shelling out a bit more cash to have it stamped.

Serial #s? Who needs 'em.

Gus and Steve, thank you so much for making this work! This is shaping up to be one very special and unique knife!

Is it possible to add the edition to the blade etch (e.g., 4th edition one of 50)?

Thank you again,
Jay

Late to the party indeed, there is not going to be ANY blade etch.:)

Your shortcomings in the sharpening department can be compensated for with a diamond hone.

The arguments for ATS-34 have not been entirely convincing, and I LIKE ATS-34....it's a traditional knife fellas...stag, bone, nickel silver....D2 has barely enough chromium to be considered stain resistant, and it has a much different coloration than stainless steel. I can't help but think that there is a reason that Queen uses D2, and it is NOT because it is an easy steel to work with.

I like the ATS-34 plus stag combination. If not stag, bone is fine.

Of the three bolster letterings given so far, I like the vertical BFC lettering on the bolster.

Either way and any way, I'm in.

I like the upper left Sig, The date on the bolster is a bit much, I think a stamp on the blade tang with date would be sufficient, and look better IMHO.....

Not going to happen.....Dating the tang stamp would add at least $5.00 to the cost, in addition to the other costs.

D-2 will develop a nice patina and with minimum care will resist rust.

from those designs, the bottom middle one is fabulous! russel-esqe with the arrow... Sweet!

Agreed bottom center bolster etch would look nice, D-2 with stag or bone is fine, as far as numbered I could go either way just no blade etch as this will be an EDC like the other forum knives have been and experience tells me now no blade etch they're just a PITA.

I'm assuming that these little details are gonna be worked out here before the commitment thread so I figured that I'd add my 2 cents worth, although I seem to be in line with the majority anyway.

I have no preference on the bone vs stag or the D2 vs ATS34. But I do like the bolster stamp instead of the laser etch, and prefer the vertical BFC with the arrow through it.

No poll, but an informal tally of steel preference, as stated:

6 specifically stated a preference for ATS-34
15 specifically stated a preference for D2
14 Don't have a preference......

Unless something dramatically changes, this knife is going to have D2 blades.

I like the Russell-like arrow logo, but I'd suggest that the arrow go through the horizontal center of the letters (like the Russell logo) as it is bisects the B and F through their center lines and that the year be put at the end like so:

I like Speas idea, but had already made this little jpg. (by no means am I any good at the photoshop)

BFCBARLOW.jpg

Is that the basic look that is being implied if there is stag to be had?

Yes, and I like this layout, but had planned to stretch the text of the bfc this evening to fill out the bolster a little bit more.

Count me in for one!I have'nt owned a Barlow since I was a kid.If the stag is donated that is pretty cool.Clip and Wharncliffe, equal length, blades sounds like a great combo. Also I love D2.Just give me an adress to send the m.o..Thanks for the planning and work that's going into this project.

I'd prefer stag, spear point and D2. No shield please. I'm in no matter what the final decision is.

Dan

Speas and 2bros that looks pretty darn cool. Thank you.
(I like the bottom configuration on Speas pic so far the best.)

Just dreamin' how great that could be if we stamped it, then the reality hits that if we do that we would narrow down our choices if we wanted to use the stamp in the future. Seems a little $ for a small run even then we would have to use a pattern with a pretty big ol' bolster (kinda like a barlow :)).

All of you are doing great on ideas and they are appreciated.

Steve getting us into nickle silver liners is appreciated. Let's keep it going for another day. Then Steven and I will talk to make sure I know what I am doing and we'll start the sign up thread tomorrow or Thursday.
