With a big fat fully swedged spear blade and a long pull? I'd give this suggestion some consideration. One like this old HSB with a bail?

I'm all about this one! I was hoping we would have done a teardrop last year so, maybe it will materialize this year.

Pins though, I need pins in the scales

Surprised that Ulster only has a center pin. The spear is quite a specimen for sure. I think that HSB is Ulster made.

Take a peek at this plate of old Ulster knives. I can see eight knives I would vote YES on. The two easy opens in the center are real pretty, and the jacks on the right are looking pretty good too. Bails could be added to the EO's, or not. 24330X has a dandy clip blade. The whole plate has real traditional style. Probably from the Roaring 20's.

Since it seems we have wandered off just the pattern, I would like to get in a vote for jigged bone. And adamantly oppose doing ebony again.

Really great knives there! Nice wharnie pen blades paired with the clip blades. Perhaps we would see one of those on an EO with a fat spear blade.

I'm all about a teardrop! We came close to having one for 2010 - second place I believe!
Jigged bone teardrop, 1095 steel like the good old days.
Easy open or not - I'm easy about that (har har):D!
Here's a Schatt with a wide blade. The swedges look better with a glaze finish instead of a high polish. The polish blurs the edges IMO.

Nice size at 3 3/4"!!
I'd bail on the bail though!!

It seems that the bail could easily be made optional.

If you make two different versions, you up the cost. It can be done. For that matter - it's not extremely hard to add a bail. Drill two holes, and add a piece of stiff bent wire.
A rivetted bail is harder, but also do-able.
Most people who actually carry a knife in a pocket, are often tempted to remove a bail.

Charlie,

Totally sold on that one!
Easy open or not
With or with out a bail

When did S&M start using ATS34 on thier File & Wire?

You are convincing me.... and I would definitely be happy either way!

neeman, someone posted the whole list of ATS34 blades Queen did. Some knives just had the main blade in ATS.
I can't remember where I saw that post!! Groan.

Hey Campbell, I thought the helpers stayed back at the 'Pole!!:D:D

Sorry Charlie, Andy and I let him out.:( He was getting cabin fever, and started attempting some pole dances. It was not pretty, and we both felt it best to let hiim out for a walk.;)

I think this thread of ideas is going quite nicely, and I think the interest is high. I know we will not please all the folks, never can never will.

Charlie,

You are so right about that swedge not looking right when all is polished. That is a very astute observation, one that a lesser knowlegdable person (me) would have missed on the first and maybe the second pass. Thanks for that.

Another example of a Teardrop Easy Open Jack in ATS 34

According to Clarence on his site, the above (posted by Charlie) File & Wire Teardrop Series 2 Edition 2 in Red Worm is also ATS 34

I couldn't agree more on the idea of the glazed or even "as ground" finish. It does look better to my eyes. If it was strictly a showpiece than high polish might be better but mine are never showpieces.
