I'm down: EO teardrop with jigged bone and (cap lifter/wharncliffe/punch) and big spear. With bolsters on both ends. With or without bail.

+1 (or 3 or 4) ..... 10-4 good buddy ..... yes, yes, yes ..... absolutely ..... I love it ..... it don't get any better than this, folks ..... :D

(Oh yeah, don't forget the long pull and swedge on the big spear blade)! ;)

I'd love real Winterbottom Bone

+1!. Last time I saw decent and authentic Winterbottom bone was either very late 1990's and/or early 2000's on an SFO Queen--S&M Barlow.. {edit to add: found it..}

.. And I sure do miss those scales these days. :( .. I grew up with the real thing back in the day when Queen was in they're element and used WB on many of they're slippy's more often then not! :D

I'm not too picky on what pattern, but I am really fond of aged honey bone...just feels great in the hand, but i'm sure any jigged bone will do me fine. :)

Also I'm keen on D2 blades, one of my favorite steels.

I have two late 60s early 70s Carvin' knives I bought as a pair off cheap bay a few years back for $10, every time my wife uses 'em she used to let 'em sit in the dish pan with soapy water, I'd go nuts, than she started puttin' 'em in the dish washer  finally I got her to clean 'em by hand so now they have "character" but I still love the way they feel and you can easily tell the difference between the Delrin Scale and the true Winterbottom Bone ones.

I'd love a EO Teardrop Jack in Winterbottom Bone.

Hey I just noticed there were over 4000 views, can ya imagine if just half of 'em commited to a forum knife:eek:, you guys runnin' this would be busy for a year packin' and shippin' them babies out.:)

:D  I got my Queen D2 to take a patina with lemon and lime juice. A good patina, coupled with a blade as hard as D2 is a nice combination.

I've had my queen bear head sitting in water, covered in fish entrails etc and its still shiny! I dont mind though...I love the cutting performance of D2.

Like a good patina but for some knives a little corrosion resistance goes a long way...definitely keen to see what comes to light with this one, I missed out on the 2010 knife so hopefully I find work soon so I can get in on this.

Queen/S&M know how to do Winterbottom

Also there is the QCCC Teardrop Jack Amber WinterBottom which is a couple of years old

Case used it rarely; dyed red!
This is a W.R.Case & Sons, Bradford. 6245P - a Harness Jack.
My favorite example of Winterbottom.

That's the pile side. The mark side isn't as pretty,
and the main blade is kinda chewed up.

WOW! I do like the deep jigging grooves and the color on that red Winterbottom. Sensational!

It's a wire attachment at the opposite end of the tang yo which a chain was attached which either attached to a belt loop or s pocket watch meant to keep a knife from gettin' lost.

Oh my, I usually don't care for Winterbottom when it's plain old bone, but that dyed red Case above is definitely nice!

Here's a question. Forgive my ignorance, but what would most people who are edc'ing the knife use the punch for?

I use my punch for all the things that are not allowed with the fine edge of my blade: scraping firesteel, poking in hard materials etc. I have even been seen prying the cap off of a bottle of beer
I think it's very useful.

People, read the OP. Save the discussion and lovely photos of scale materials for future threads. That being said, I'm hoping that this year's pattern will lean toward a single blade design, with the blade being the only tool on the knife or with a bottle opener or a punch as a secondary tool.

Extending the case for a teardrop, here are a few more pics of what a beautiful knife a teardrop can be!!
These are older Case knives.
The top two have reasonably full blades.

Some of you remember my first attempt at a special factory order.
This Robeson pattern is the one that provided the model!
It looks good as a Harness Jack, but also as a single blade.

Here is an example of the finished product.
Goes back a few years, but it's still the favorite for me.

Queen did an exceptional job on this knife!

I can get behind a teardrop no problem, and making it an EO model doesn't hurt one bit. Not really a big fan of the harness jack though, just never use the punch/awl on the few knives I have that have one. I modified the awl on an old Boy Scout style to make it more of a chisel kind of shape, but haven't really had much use for that either. Done a bit of whittling where it came in handy, but not a whole lot of use. I vastly prefer a spear or clip matched with a smaller pen or coping blade.

I was kind of hoping for something a little farther off from the Barlow though, obviously different knives, but sort of in the same vein. I really dig the idea of the dogleg jack that came up earlier in the thread. I could get behind a scout or soddy too.

Probably gonna buy at least 1 of whatever we come up with anyway, but there's my 2cents.

I think the pics help, there are a lot of people who don't know what different scales are like or the variations of the different jigging also it's hard to visualize what some scale materials will look like on different patterns.

Winterbottom Bone on a Peanut Pattern looks a lot different on a larger EO Jack.

Bein' this is the initial thread people are gonna post a lot of things they might feel are pertinent to makin' a choice, once we get down to what patterns to choose from, then who makes 'em and what scale materials they use, those threads are the ones to be specific on.

For now everyones just havin' fun voicin' their opinions. :)
