2011 Traditional Forum Knife Thread

Can we stay away from Queen and Schatt & Morgan? No particular reason except that they have been the makers of at least two of the Blade Forum Knives -- 2009 and 2010. I'd like to give another manufacture a shot at the Blade Forum's 2011 knife.

Just my .02¢

Ed,

We will consider any and all manufacturers based on quality, cost, ability to do the project within our time goals.

We also want to make sure that our chosen manufacturer makes an outstanding wharncliff blade, because I know you love them so much.:D

My suggestion would be for a "Canlow" -- a single backspring Canoe w/ a Spear (main) & Wharny (secondary) blades. Think of it as having the two blades from the Dan Burke/Queen Barlow in a (Queen-made?) single backpring Canoe frame. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing the next one in D2 or perhaps even CPM-154... I never thought I'd develop a preference for stainless blades in a slip-joint, but some of my recent stainless (or "semi-stainless") slippies have been growing on me.

Otherwise, I'd like to see a 4" Trapper w/ a long swedged clip and a Wharny secondary blade.

I like this "Canlow" idea. It sounds unique and I love the canoe handle shape. I'd probably be in for whatever is decided on but especially prefer two blades and something between 3"-4".
Two blade dogleg jack or gunstock would be nice. I wouldn't mind a peanut either. I like bone, stag or micarta. Not real into wood handles.
Can't wait to see what develops.

If a toenail can't be done for a reasonable price, what about a Baby or sleeveboard. I'm picturing one similar to Elliot's Don Hanson model with a spear and Wharncliffe just in a smaller package. Make it in D2 and I'll be buying at least two.
I hope Elliot will forgive me for borrowing his photo.

I like your sleeveboard idea, except for the D2. I love the way toenails look, but they're just not a practical user pattern.

Another suggestion would be an easy open jack with a bail. You don't see them anymore.

With a big fat fully swedged spear blade and a long pull? I'd give this suggestion some consideration. One like this old HSB with a bail?

I like the EO with a bail (just like the ol' Remingtons) even more than a dogleg. :o
That would be the bee's knees.

I voted earlier for a stockman or a muskrat but this would be a great choice.I changed my mind...... Bring back the old EO's

It would be really hard to argue against those EOs. Just to make it OURs though, we could have it made with a wharnie secondary as apposed to the pen. Just a thought.
Whatever we do, I suggest making it unique. Of course it is traditional but it doesn't have to be typical.

Sounds good to me Mack. A big fat spear and a wharnie, with nice fancy NS bail with a pin, not like the type that squeeze on.

I voted for a Congress and Trapper, but those EOs look nice. Let me change my vote to an EO with spear and wharnie, too.

Wow -- I'm really liking that one. I never thought I'd take a shine to something more than having a Wharny secondary, but a that driver/lifter is "the bee's knees" indeed (FWIW, I should know better since the spear + lifter combo is the reason my SAK Soldier makes it into my pocket as often as it does). I'd be more than happy to get in line for one of these --- say with one of the nicer stainless blade options others have been mentioning, SS bolsters & liners, and jigged bone. Basically a fresh version of what you have pictured.
