Ivory Micarta
Bar shield
Brass liners
Sheepsfoot, long pull
Pen secondary
O1 would be a dream come true but there's nothing wrong with 1095

Sheep foot main, pen secondary, nice swedges on both blades, square pinched bolsters, aged ivory micarta scales and extended spring, bar shield. Not bigger than 3 5/8" closed. That would be my choice. Thanks for this year team for the hard work.

Mike,
You seem to be the most popular quote

I do not see the need for a sheild in such a light material
But if, then a very simple bar

I'd like to see white or ivory micarta. I'm kind of liking the idea of a sheepfoot main blade. Brass liners would give it so class and I like the idea of wrap around springs. Long nick please.

Would like to see a wharncliffe main, with small clip secondary ala the 25 Lil Jacks. Wrap around springs. Squared slanted bolsters, or bolsters with a rat-tail.

Some kind of variation on this shield might flow well with the lines of the pattern.

What about a little knife of some type for the sheild? Maybe an outline of the blade forums logo knife?

I still like the arrow head or the Federal Shield too.

Stolen from the old 2012 thread. This to me, minus the covers would be about perfect.

Just a thought..... someone said the pen blade should have a belly....... What about a slightly longer than average pen with a drop point?

Assume Sheep Foot Main of course.

I love O1 steel, and the way it seems to form patina almost by the power of suggestion.

However, due to that very factor (including all the colors that can erupt within said O1 patina), I don't believe it matches well aesthetically with the "finesse" of the congress jack and its appointments (as currently projected through these discussions and preferences).

That was why I hope D2 can be a choice. In my uses I haven't found much difference in patina formation among many of the regular carbon steels, and agree that it doesn't seem like a heavy patina would suit the knife well, but I am less concerned about the steel as all choices will cut very well.

I have said that, but am having a hard time visualizing what you mean. More of a mixture between Spey and pen, without the straight clip? I don't mind that thought if I a reading your intentions properly. A bit more belly than in the picture Mink posted, I loved that design as soon as I saw it. I would prefer not having plain bolsters and no shield, I feel that the forum knife should be a bit more embellished as it is a quite special knife each year that should stand out. If it was a MOP handle I could get behind the idea more (Perhaps a peanut with MOP next year.....)

Now when will Cold Steel be starting production on these.......

(Ducks as assorted cyber-tools are thrown at me through the Internet!!)

There's just no way D2 can be considered. During the polling, I brought up and posted that I thought that D2 should be considered as a carbon steel. Well, the answer/discussion concerning that were many and varied and the final determination was that D2 was not a carbon steel. I have to say that after all the back and forth on it, I agree.

There were clear choices in the Steel Poll and D2 was not listed in the carbon category. It was listed separately with other stainless steels (premium I think). Evidently there were not enough guys/gals that wanted D2 for it to win.

Carbon won by a landslide. 1095, etc. should get the nod for the 2013 BF knife.

I'm thinking a drop point blade, but the size of a pen blade. The pen is like a small spear with the tip in the center..... move the tip higher up and you get more belly..... that's a drop point.

I wanted to illustrate some of the micarta choices mentioned so far.

That butterscotch Micarta looks pretty good :)

Pen and a sheepsfoot :)

My vote goes to:

Brass Liners
Fluted carbon bolsters
Linen micarta (Tan first choice, then ivory)
Swedge on both blades
Rounded bolsters
Thin and long federal shield. Or just a small oval I think would look nice

I think any of the micartas would probably look really good with a patina'd blade, although I'm really liking that antique ivory micarta in particular.
