2013 BladeForums Traditional Knife Official KICKOFF!

Something like this with a lanyard tube would be sweet.

Unfortunately, I have a pair of plain jane ones.... but, scroll through this thread and you'll see how good they can look: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/978999-Traditional-Of-The-Month-Sodbuster

I would have posted some pics of them, but they are not my pics.

Actually I was just there, there were some sweet lookin' Soddies there, I really liked the one with the Stag scales.

That is sweet I like slim it is and the Micarta looks great.

That knife at the top of this page is exactly what I was hoping for! I remember the good ole' day's like last weekend when after ten or so votes, the soddy was neck and neck with the congress on the polls. I'll be happy with whatever we come up with, but a fancy single blade like this would be dynamite!

I also voted for a congress. Jack preferred but a half is nice too. Would love to see it in a light tan colored micarta. Burlap would be great, imagine a nice golden brown burlap micarta with a simple shield. Mmmm

...we already placed orders with the finest Pakistani cutlers to make the 2013 half melon toepick in genuine roadkill bone. ;)

No matter what pattern is ultimately selected and produced, I vote that Blaine names it!

I also think we should get in on roadkill bone before everyone's doing it, and it becomes passé.

:)

Roadkill, Ah yes I remember having a can of that once. The ingredients read " Pieces of formerly living things"
Wasn't that bad! :barf:

Dave

PS let us do hurry we don't want to be passe! :)

Yes, a very great choice and it clearly shows how a humble Sodbuster, or other single-blade knife, can be turned into something very special and interesting with the use of micarta and quality steel.

Imagine a Farm&Field with Lambsfoot, all stainless construction, Antique Ivory Micarta (or a rich Red) plus a Propeller shield....The new Farm&Field Lockback could be a good host too for that matter!

Thanks, Will

Unfortunately, the congress pattern is pulling away with this one. The poor ole sod buster is currently 58 votes behind.

*Moved from the Poll thread:

I was poking around looking for photos of Marbles knives and I happened across this fantastic example of the Coke Bottle pattern from an old sales thread (and props to the original photographer--so nice!) *Sure hope ya don't mind me reposting your pic, Boggs! :) I'd love a similar cut in a 3-3.5" closed package...

Cat-herding, indeed! :D I like the Congress and Jack patterns but I already have a few in my humble stable. Something a little different would be sweet!

Thanks, Will! I must admit I spent at least half an hour to get all the patina off and make it shine - it's back in the pocket and did peel an apple already :)

Have I showed you my Elephant's peanut sampler?

OK, assuming the Congress is the winner, what's going to take it to the next level to make it "The 2013 BladeForums Knife"? Traditional without being just another copy?

Honestly, I don't know exactly what a Congress knife was designed to do, if anything. Personally, I admire a tools performance and function over aesthetics.

Is it possible to clarify the Congress's purpose, and then find ways to make it exceptional in that regard, in materials and design?

I know, a lot of questions without many answers, but I was hoping wiser and more experienced heads could provide some answers.

BTW Timberweasel, I love the character and look of those Coke Bottle patterns! Thanks!

Posted this in the poll thread but I would like to see something like a Congress Jack in yellow bone or antique ivory micarta with something like a clip primary and wharny secondary.

Oh and either no shield or a federal if one is used.
