By that point, it might as well be... If we all decide, and it is in time to be made/delivered this year, it might as well be the bladeforums knife, since we are the ones that cobbled it together and commissioned the build.
Just to clarify a bit, I meant if there were enough folks interested in the runner up or another idea...couldn't they get together to get a run made, in addition to the forum knife?

Something like that was done with the Erik’s Jack, wasn’t it?

If we go with Buck this year, I hope it is the 301.
While a great knife, the 303 just feels too small in my hand.

Steel: I don't care
Flat Grind
Brass Bolsters and pins
"Blade Forums" shield?
Covers: How about a yellow or black G-10?

With Buck, i'm not sure we could have a different shape shield. My understanding, which could be wrong, is that it would be the current Buck oval but with custom engraving if we choose.

There's some good ideas popping up here, and eventually we'll settle on something that's pretty cool.

I'm wondering though, do some of these proposed ideas HAVE to be the "Traditional BladeForums Knife" or can a bunch of us still agree to go in on a special run regardless? Would Buck refuse to do special run of 301s if it wasn't our official traditional forum knife?

Buck has minimums that they would expect to be filled of course, but you wouldn't be refused if you could meet those. If that ever was a route you wanted to go, then we could facilitate something, that way, if you couldn't sell the minimums we could just open it up to the general public. Also, you might consider taking that idea over to the Buck Forum specifically too. :)

Wow, a few spring snowstorms and I miss everything. :D I have to go back and read the previous pages to see which way the wind's blowin' on this year's knife. Sorry I dropped the ball on this one. I was just talkin' with @cf1969 about it this afternoon. I was gonna start a thread this weekend but now I don't have to, thanks. :) Well at least I'm subscribed.

I would still be on board for a nice B&T or EDC sized fixed blade.

EDC sized for me would consist of:
- 3"-3.5" blade
- 6" or 6.5"-7" oal
- a .75"-1" blade height
- Full flat ground
- Straight back or drawn swedged clip preferred, but a subtle drop point can work.
- Wood slabs
- Handle contouring would depend upon handle length, but a basic ovoid cigar would work for simplicity of design for various hand sizes.

Or a Manly Patriot Bill?:D I’m good with those fixed dimensions. Otherwise, Buck! Gimme Stainless please! Micarta , Delrin, Stag, yellow, black-whatever-give me Stainless!(not 420hc!) If we were smart 20CV! The best bang for your buck(sorry pun), for wearability, edge holding, and toughness. Literally a knife you can hand down for generations!(now , if only it was a 319 with spiral punch...:). Can’t have everything!)
Thanks, Neal

LOL! :D

Before anyone beats me to it, I just want to steal this perennial bit of advice, which always seems to be a feature of the annual forum knife discussion thread:

"Why don't we all just go and buy a Case Sodbuster/Victorinox Pioneer in the same colour?" ! :D

How about we all buy yellow Buck stockman knives and send them to @r8shell for some Porch scrimshaw work?! :D:p

I'm 10 pages in so far and figured it's a good time to take a break post some pics of the past forum knives, these are full sets of all 12 knives form 2006 till 2017.

Here's everything with what they were except for the last year's knife the 2017 Barlow.

That shadow jack is amazing; it really catches my eye.

I'd like to see a 99 lockback. :)

The Canal Street Serpentine Jack is really the only one of my traditional knives that has really made it into a consistent carry for me. I like the other ones, but that serpentine jack just beats out every other traditional knife I have for regular carry. A big part of that is the fact that it is stainless, but I also love the simplicity of it and the way the wood feels in the hand.

I also feel sad about the loss of Canal Street Cutlery every time I grab it. It feels especially poignant to me that our forum knife was pretty much the last run of knives they did. It really is a special knife, and definitely one of my top five favorite knives of all that I have owned.

Edited to add: To be clear, I do carry a traditional pretty much every day, but the CS shadow serpentine is the only one that really gets carried regularly. I carry others fairly often, but it is always an effort to pick a different knife.

In the past, they did an exclusive pattern and waited at least a year before they used if for a slightly different run.... IE the Congress Jack

Yes it is true that GEC has had very good sales success with patterns based on or connected to the Forum Knife, see Ted's recent group picture: 2011,12,13,14,16,17. But the 13 pattern was not re-released until 2017-unlike the others that appeared concurrently or soon after.
