Attention 2019 Forum knife question thread.

Someone just sold their 2019 forum knife on eBay for $235. More than double what they paid for it. I'm sorry, but that disgusts me.
Is the issue that they sold it as soon as they got it or the price sold for? If they bought two, the seller got their keeper for free. There is a market for it because some people miss the sign up or payment time frame or simply for resale at an even greater price in a year from now. I believe this particular BF Trads knife will sell for much more in the future on the secondary market. Say $400?

When we signed on for the forum knife, there were 'rules', one of which was:

A lot of hard work is going into this with no profit in it for anyone except maybe the knife manufacturer. We don’t want to set this up just so a flipper can come along and turn a fat profit on the backs of others as has happened in some past years. So this is a “members only” set up. If folks buy the knife and later decide the knife is not for them and want to sell it, we would ask that you sell it on the BF exchange and just charge enough to cover your costs.
Didn't take long to figure out what member that was, considering their post history it's not a surprise.

I'll make Frank and Gary aware and they can deal with it accordingly.

My issues with it are both the price and the fact it was not offered up on the Bladeforums exchange. When we signed on for a forum knife there were some 'rules', one of which was:

People who thumb their noses at the rules and would rather make a 100% profit than to offer the knife on the forum exchange to other forum members who missed out as per the rules are greedy jerks IMO. There it is. As stated, that is just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

Well, here's mine... It has the ultra-rare 26-2/3 triangles in the nail nick. The rocker rivet is a little sharp on the mark side, and it has GEC's trademark 17/10 nail busting pull. Overall a nice effort:

I haven't heard any real complaints on this years knife. Happy customers across the board. Well done GEC.:thumbsup:
Happy customer here!
Beautiful fit and finish with outstanding walk and talk. The covers are gorgeous wether black or chocolate they all look stunning with there own character.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I can’t recall anyone not eventually gettin’ a wanted past forum knife if they wanted one.

Someone usually always comes to the rescue. Now granted, the rarer the the forum knife the higher the cost and longer the possible wait and there are the exceptions to the rule.

Those being the earliest knives made, 2006-2008 made in small numbers of around 35-50 give or take a dozen or so. 2009 was a pivotal year for us, we popped up on the collectors radar. I remember the year of the Barlow.

What a beautiful knife that was, all the work that went into that knife and gettin’ into everyone’s mailboxes. I wonder how many realize how close that came to bein’ the last annual knife for traditional?

The complete story of that year’s knife would make for some interesting research. One of these days I’ll hafta contact all the folks involved and get permission to tell the story.

The early years when there was more member involvement in the design process, when every decision required a poll and a month to be fair to everyone else. Lol :D

It was a wonder we ever got a knife made in the early years. If it wasn’t for the love of knives and the fun for the most part that we had building a knife by consensus, I think we woulda gave up that first year and just had Kevin laser engrave something on a more obtainable and certainly cheaper traditional knife.

Still we persevered and here it is 14 years and 13 knives later, still makin’ an annual knife for the traditional folks who like to call the porch home.

I would like to hear stories of the early forum knives (probably many would). Even though I have been on BladeForums for almost 20 years, I either was posting in other areas or just dormant - so I missed a bunch of these. The story of the evolution and growth of this tradition would be very interesting reading.

something is buggy, posts keep doubling
When it’s taking for ever to load don’t double tap the post button. Just reload/refresh the page and see if it’s there if not try again .
If your afraid you’ll have to retype everything you attempted to post just copy your post before you refresh so if it’s not there just paste it back :)

Not to get off subject but since mentioned Flee bay is disgusting no matter how you slice it.

yes, did not wish to bombard them with the listing, it was picked up on the facebook groups as well.

This year’s forum knife is my very first GEC knife. It has surpassed all of my expectations with its fluid function, spot on fit and finish and beautiful wood slabs. I wasn’t crazy about the sheepfoot blade the polls decided to go with, but damn, I’m a convert now. I think all of the chosen features have worked together in perfect harmony to create a knife that not only gets the job done but looks fantastic while doing so. I’m pretty sure this won’t be my last GEC pocketknife.

After seeing everyone's posts I was really excited to get my forum knife, unfortunately mine ended up having a big gouge in the mark side scale :(.

Surprised this passed the QC department.

Sadly this is going to be the first time i have to make a claim on the lifetime warranty. Hoping GEC will replace the mark side cover. I think sanding it down will throw off the contour of the knife.
