2019 GEC 29 Humpback/Stockyard Whittler Thread

Goodness. GEC’s famed quality control has certainly taken a hit on this run.

On the plus side this red bone jigging is better (deeper) than normal
I have not been following that closely. Have there been fit and finish issues on this run?

Mike Latham explained it best...but it is a tedious process that doesn't really return any additional value or profit for GEC. As much as I appreciate the pins, my hunch is they were something GEC tried out at some point and then it caused more grief than it was worth. Folks complaining they didn't get a pin, someone sitting their for many hours pressing pins, etc.
So it is just a hunch. I assume they will still do it but maybe less frequently is my guess.

You mean they actually made them themselves?! I had no idea. I assumed they were made elsewhere.

Because of some bad snakewood? Or are you referring to other issues?

Both sides via photoshop.

You got a real winner!

Both my 29s have been really well made.

That red Jigged Bone is incredible. I'm not always a huge fan of Jigged Bone but that stuff is gorgeous.

Yes, as there are with all “runs” but discounting so-called issues with blade pull preferences (issues for some, not for others), dislike of certain scale covers and questions about weight and thickness and number of springs, I have read little of actual objective issues.

I have however, read many accolades for this pattern.

I've only been following this thread somewhat casually but it seems most folks have been pretty happy with this pattern.

The complaints regarding the pulls and such don't seem much different than other 3 blade patterns that GEC has produced recently.

"BADGES !" "WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING BADGES !"

First of the stag's dropped this morning, I think I got a good one.

Looks great, congrats!

I was waiting on this drop all day yesterday. I turned my phone to wifi early this morning to save my data, and didn't realize my email notifications wouldn't come through, so I missed the drop this morning. Pretty frustrated about that right now.

You've captured that Maple beautifully. What a stunning knife!

It's another un-curly maple pix:cool:
It has a 3D look to it I can't capture, shimmers in sunlight..

I have a Case in Maple and I can attest to how difficult it is to capture its beauty in a picture.

My maple arrived a day early and is sitting in the mailbox. This day at work can't end soon enough :)

I am looking forward to seeing it. The wood and shield has turned out to be a delightful combination.

I saw some of the stag in the GEC pictures and it didn't look that impressive, but all of these so far look great. Old Engineer Old Engineer is the stag king, waiting to see if he scored a gem.
Thank you very much for the very kind words but your waiting can now be over . The #29 just does not appeal to me . I will not be getting any even though it looks like there were some with nice Stag .
