Happy camper here.

Stag, especially when you are unable to pick out your own, is like the proverbial box of chocolates - you really never know what you will get. I do like that element of surprise and anticipation - it does serve to salve any disappointment I might experience when opening up that tube.

I've gotten quite the gamut from Mike over the years - I've received some rather stellar examples, some fair to middlin' ones, some downright weird specimens, and in one case, a rather ugly one.

These pictures are but a small sampling but here is a few that are at the top of my list. This is ultimately how I like my Stag - dark, gnarly, and full of craggy character.

Fair to middlin' - these fall in that range where they don't win any beauty contests but they aren't unattractive and they definitely would be ones I'd be more inclined to pocket and use.

I find these straight up weird but they are fun and I love the quirkiness of them.

This one is rather ugly, in my opinion, (mostly due to its lack of texture) and I ended up moving it along awhile back - somewhat to my regret though, it would have made a great user.

The Weirdness draws me in like a magnet :D

And yes, that would've made a superb EDC after a while.

Even though I don't have one of the latest batch, I'm really impressed with the examples shown here, they all wear their scales with great effect. Beautiful knives to have now and for the future

Another one joins the fold - this should wrap things up for me. I really like how they finished the Cocobolo on these, leaving more material on the slabs (like a proper Barlow, in my opinion).

A couple of points of critique for me - I’ve been spoiled with GEC’s treatment of Barlows and refraining from using brass liners and pins (at least in all of the examples that I’ve handled and/or owned). I’m a bit disappointed with their implementation on this run. I also prefer the match strike pulls on my other NF Barlows and I definitely prefer the inlaid color in the bolster stamps - the latter being easy enough to remedy.

Overall, I’m happy to have these recent ones join my modest collection - fine knives, all of them.

Here is a couple of TCs that have a similar wood treatment, though I think there is more chamfering on the 77.

Note the thickness in the slabs (hard to see maybe).

This one, of course, still reigns supreme.
