2023 GEC Cody Scout #721123LB

Hi I was wondering any of you have received Cody scouts from CK reserve yet? I am just on standby but was very fast on the telegram.
I was on CK standby for the burlap Micarta and got lucky. That showed up 1 week+ ago. Sienna bone shipped today. I was confirmed “reserved “ for Sienna bone.

Is that for aesthetics or you don't like the quality of the wood?
I could be wrong but it seems that, even in a traditional forum, there exists an unrelenting demand for novelty.

I read an interesting article about how the custom mega-yacht industry is struggling to come up with "new and exciting" exotic materials to furnish their boats with in order to impress their future clientele -- because the next silly out-of-touch billionaire who wants a custom mega-yacht obviously can't bear the thought of having the same exotic upholstery as Jeff Bezos has on his.

I'm ok with Che Chen and if anybody has a GEC in it that's too pedestrian for them, I'll gladly take it off their hands at 50% of what they paid for it if they'll cover the shipping. 🤣

Interesting to see how deeply inset the shield is on this bone…

I wasn't going to post anything about this knife here. But, I saw your post and had the same issue with my shield. So, I wonder if it is a pattern. To be honest, I was quite disappointed in the overall fit and finish of my sienna bone 72.

There was a massive burr on the spring termination large enough to scrape skin off of your finger, the shield was poorly fit and canted such that one side was nearly flush with the bone but the other severely sunken (more so than pictures can seemingly show), and mine had a fairly good size crack near the bolster.

I got very lucky on a che chen drop and feel blessed to have managed it. So, I am definitely returning my sienna bone for a full refund through the dealer. It's unacceptable in my eyes. I seriously hope that I am the exception and that everyone else's sienna 72s are not turning out this poorly. I'm sure I was just unlucky and got a bad apple from the bunch. But, I truly wish the best to everyone and hope you all have the best of luck with the siennas.

I think that people think it has been overused lately, but in all reality, it really hasn't been used that much, especially considering how many patterns GEC has cranked out this year. (7 patterns this year vs. 10 in all of last year.

It was used on the 56 EO, the 74 Cotton Sampler, the 47 harvesters, so 3 times in almost 7 months.

Now, the 53 electrician had cocobolo, along with the 25 Beerlow, and the 87 had the jigged cherry.

Theory 1 is that wood is one of the less popular handle materials, so people keep seeing "simple brown wood" over and over again, and che chen is the most recent on so that is the one that gets the heat.
Theory 2 is that people want a different type of wood on each release/don't want to see the same wood more than a couple times in a whole year.

Maybe I am wrong, just a guess.

I think "just enjoy what's around."

I apparently missed the glory days of plentiful sambar stag (with shields, even!), but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy some nice wood (heh heh) now.

I've got a 47 Harvester in Che Chen. It's phenomenal. If they cut these from the same slab, I'd be satisfied. 🤷

I like the Che Chen and I was able to get one on order. That's probably my only one for this pattern, I am trying to be more selective these days.
